I had a stock block 347 in my 1979 Mustang. It went 10:70 on motor but the block broke after two years. I run another 347 right now but with a A-4 Motorsport block. Car has not been to the track yet.

If you plan on using a stock block I would plan on using a block from a Mustang GT engine. I did the dynamometer development work for FoMoCo and in the early years of development we failed some blocks on the dyno. Over the years (pre-'82) the block had been weight- and cost-reduced because the power levels were relatively low through the '70s. When the GT program got going we had to beef up the blocks because of nearly double the power. So a '82 and up GT Mustang block is the one to get ('85 and up if you want to use a hydraulic/roller cam). Of course if you want to lay down some serious HP don't scrimp - get the racing block. Good luck.
