How will you react?

by Chris North (Login nosl)

You all know that we're hosting the Northern Michigan Black Bears on November 14th. I'm curious to see how fans will react in North Bay to see the Black Bears play on the 14th. With all the hype and stir that the Centennials made in the community when they left town, I wonder... This will be the first time since November 17th, 2001 that North Bay will be hosting an american based club at Memorial Gardens for a regular season game (which was between the Centennials and Plymouth). I know about the exhibition game between the Trappers and Nashville AAA last season which the Trappers won 4-0.

About the American Anthem, I knew this was coming in regards to patriotism. This is one of the reason's why I was against allowing a team in another country joining the league. I figured that some people are going to be disrespectful towards each other's national anthem.

It should be an interesting game, i hope there is no disrespect to the other team other then the same thing we give the the other teams now. and if you disrepect their national anthem then i think you need to take a look at yourself.

HYPE...

by rollotape (Login rollotayp)

Why hype this game....there's nothing plausible in this post...our big grudge game should be the Wild...not some made up rivalry with a Michigan based team...the last booing at the Gardens that I remember was against Ted Thompson...North Bay fans have more class than to boo an anthem...sheesh!

Trappers vs Majors (Game 1 & 2)

by Chris North (Login nosl)

The Trappers got their clocks cleaned on Saturday 17-2 against the Timmins Majors. However, the Trappers won their first game of the season today against those same Timmins Majors by a score of 4-3. Way to go guys for the first win of the season.

Northern Wolves vs Skyhawks

by Chris North (Login nosl)

Poor refereeing in the first. Seems to me like some of the players aren't gelling with the team. I think the Skyhawks are going to need some improvement if they are to advance to the next level.

Sudbury 3
North Bay 2 (Overtime Loss)

Decent crowd of 2,047.

Federal Hockey League

by Chris North (Login nosl)

Well it seems to be that the FHL will be starting up in January of 2004. Apparently, 1/2 of the teams in the league will be owned by the league. 40 game schedule... http://www.federalhockeyleague.ca/

The season has already been pushed back in starting by a couple of months. John Larsen has not once responded to any of my emails concerning the FHL in Northern Ontario (North Bay & Thunder Bay). Is this league legitimate or a scam?

Makes you really think

by Greatger (Login Greatger)

Wolves beat Bears 6 - 2
when the Skyhawks lose 5 - 1 to the same Bears.

Chuck Battah’s power-play blast from the point was followed later by three rapid goals from Mike Mills, Tyler Mackenzie and Dan Bourgeois to propel Sudbury to their fourth straight win. Paul Pidutti picked up the win in net

Who is the power team in this division, I don't think
its the Hawks.....Guy better be making some sound decisions now because Sudbury is 4 points up on us and by the looks of things probably will be more....
Come on Guy, lets get some scorers that can put the puck in the net, and a decent goaltender that can stop the puck before its too late.

Sylvain Houle coming back?

by KM (Login KM_)
Forum Owner

This was posted on the NOJHL board and i heard this thursday and today from someone else. it would be nice as long as his attitude has changed and he is going to lose his temper to much and take dumb penalties. if he has changed i am sure the players and fans would welcome him back with open arms.

feeder system?

by horton and spencer (Login hortonandspencer)

the trappers and the skyhawks do not have a cooperative relationship. This hampers player development and consequently midget aaa players are discouraged to play with the hawks on a call up basis.North Bay minor hockey do not support a triple a system until bantam.

Re: feeder system?

by X-Hockeyman (Login oldpucker99)

There has always been an 'interuption' in the natural flow of developing players in North Bay. Players are developed on a continual and natural basis until they reach Midget. Then it stops.
You see, the Trapper organization operates in a vaccuum. They dont believe in grooming their players to eventually become Skyhawk players. They actually discourage their Midget age players from even attending Junior camps in the fall. The kids like to go to these free evaluation camps to see just where they 'fit it' talent and development-wise. Trappers management actually do all in their power to persuade players to stay away from such camps..even if the boy is just trying to feel his way around and measure his skills against others.
Why do they do this?
Simple.
They are afraid that some of the better Midget players might make that Junior teams' roster and leave the Trappers team!
They claim they are interested in the players development but are more interested in icing the best team they can at all costs.
Unfortunately, this selfish attitude is well known throughout the whole hockey system and now many kids dont even aspire to play for the Trappers anymore!
I wonder how many fans know that each year the Trappers loose many players to other teams because they actually go and live in little towns like New Liskeard and Kirkland Lake so they can play for those Midget teams who actually promote and develop their players for higher levels of hockey (namely Junior!).
In recent years, North Bay minor hockey has placed the emphasis on recreational hockey..not competitive hockey. I dont argue with that as this approach benefits 99.9% of the players, who, lets face it, arent going on to the NHL anyway.
They have tailored their management of hockey to fit the majority of kids, and its hard to argue with that.
AA level of teams up through PeeWee is fine anyway.
Bantam AAA is back in good hands and will begin to redevelop top notch players in future and thus feed the sytem again.
But it doesnt matter anyway. These developed kids wont end up with the Skyhawks, they will go down south to play with teams that encourage them.
Did you know that the Trappers wont even sign an Affiliation Agreement with the Hawks, which would allow their better players to be pulled up to the Hawks games when needed...much less encourage any better skilled boys to try out there!
So you see, basically the whole system is constipated at the Midget level.
What needs to be done to correct it?
I leave that conclusion up to you the reader!

Hey Km, you said it so , this oldpucker is answering his own posts, thinking we don't know of it...LOL
He responded to one of mine, got 3 emails, and they are all from him too....I think he's going senile!
He asks questions, gives opinions, and then posses as someone else to make people think, there is actually others supporting him in his views...how funny can that be? Maybe, he's got a split personality too...LOL

sometimes it is intelligent

by horton and spencer (Login hortonandspencer)

I was impressed by the post submitted by oldpucker. His observations about the skyhawks and the trappers was accurate and reflect the erosion of hockey in North Bay.There are several changes that need to be made immediately in order for hockey to improve in the Bay.The comments about the trappers is accurate and certainly aaa hockey is not supported by the west ferris minor hockey executive.KM and Bleacher Creature didnt absorb the serious nature of oldpuckers comments.Frankly..I was dissapointed in their comments as their hockey knowledge is very limited and restricted to skyhawks activities.Oh well!!!
