George and I had a fun adventure on Silver and Boulder Basin Peaks last Sunday. We started up the First Couloir intersected by the Silver Lake trail. Its rare to find a place where you can crampon up 30 to 45 degree snow only 30 minutes from the parking lot! We followed the jagged South Ridge of Silver for more than a mile to the summit. With thunder rumbling in the distance, we then glissaded the spooky looking east couloir which falls directly from the Silver Peak summit. That baby is steep! Thunder and drizzle characterized our scrabble on the ridge to Boulder Basin Peaks summit.
(Thanks to Matt for posting those pictures from his recent trip to the Sawtooths. )
