Much of that would depend upon which way you were traveling from. If you were coming through Stanley, you would be correct. The extra time it would take for you to drive to Sunbeam, up Yankee Fork over Loon Creek Summit and down to the Diamond D ranch, you could have 6 or so miles behind you on the Knapp Creek Trail. I would likely go up Yankee Fork since I would be coming in from the Challis side of things. It still may not save much time as the Diamond D road can be pretty rough, but I like the this area more than the Knapp Creek drainage. For me, Knapp Creek is kind of boring.
