Response to Tango Lakes

The Tango Lakes are one of the very few in this area that I have not had the opportunity to hit yet. However, they are very high on my list. The "easiest" way to get there would be to park at the Diamond D Ranch and walk up the trail from there. I belive the Diamond D (a dude ranch) keeps this trail maintained pretty well and it is about a 8 or 9 mile hike along Loon Creek and then up Tango Creek. The drive up the Yankee Fork and up and over Look Creek Summit is long and rough, but very scenic.

If you want to go for adventure, it would be hard to beat the Crimson Lake Basin to Tango Creek. This is pretty straightforward and would be a great multi-day hike with some on and off trail hiking.

The shortest hiking route would be to drive to the southwest edge of Cabin Creek Peak on the Basin Butte/Red Mountain road and proceed up to the un-named lake on the west side of CCP. From this lake, proceed up to the saddle between this lake and Knapp Creek. At the saddle, take a right and proceed up to the ridge north of CCP. Once on this ridge, you can follow the Tango Spine north all the way to the Tango Lakes. You are looking at nealy 4 miles of off-trail bushwacking and rock hopping, but you may be able to save a couple of miles and see some very interesting country in the process. It looks like this route will be about a 4 mile hike. However, I doubt that you will save much time due to the off-trail nature of this route and the long and rough Basin Butte/Red Mountain road.
