One thing that got me and as someone who just signed his kid up for Boy Scouts, I don't how I would handle this. When I was hiking up I saw kids that had no business even hiking to the parking lot from their campsite. Saw some really overweight kids waddling up the trail. How does one tell these kids' parents that their kid is too fat and should not endanger themselves or the other people that they are hiking with?
Add to the list kids hiking up in Vans, Converse Hi-Tops, wearing the wrong clothes, going up with a fanny pack that carries one water bottle, where are the adults that let them hit the trail in the first place?
I also fault some of the leaders that I saw. I don't think they knew just how serious of a hike Borah is. If I saw 1-2 fat kids on the trail there would be 3-4 equally as fat leaders waddling up the trail with the kids. Where did some of these Boy Scout troops get the idea that anyone can make it up the mountain? |
