Two weeks ago, we left the COR trail just below the terrible section in the trees, (at the dead tree in the first saddle) and headed Northeast but stayed too high. If you look at their google image (PIX #7) thats where we cut down and connected (and finished) with their red line. Not fun at all. I know the "Willis Wall" area very well now. I wasn't trying to find a short cut to the NW ridge, but we got to its base just the same. (The Northwest Ridge doesn't appeal to me at all.)
When we bailed this week, we took their green line all the way to the TH at Rock Creek, and then hiked across the flats back to the COR TH. Not fun either. If I get another crack at it, the thing should go quick. (Older wiser now) I take my hat off to the 3 folks in that TR. I'd hate to hike all the heavy junk like a tent, sleeping bag, pad, and kitchen up that side of the mountain. BUT I guess it was cheep insurance. I've never had to bivi on Borah, and hope I never will.
This year looks to be a good one for the ice on the North Face. Psycho Therapy looked like it will come in good. When it does, mmmmMMM Mm.
