I was able to cross. Due to variation in shade, Willow Creek varied a lot from openly flowing sections, to thinly frozen sections, to super thickly frozen sections. The main trail crosses the creek a lot, but I avoided the crossings when I could by taking the faint trails that hugged the steep creekside. There was one stretch roughly one mile up the creek where I crossed to stay on the main trail, because staying on the side I was on looked too steep.
There were really bizarre islands of thick, solid ice that were like 20 yards away from the creek and were noticeably higher than the creek. I guess the creek must have frozen and risen and frozen and risen, eventually spilling into these higher areas, where it then froze. Then, as temperatures rose, some of these higher, further away areas in the shade just didn't melt out. It was strange though, because these higher frozen areas weren't depressions where water would have pooled up. They sloped toward the creek. Should have taken pics of those...
