Anyone know how the snow levels are looking in the northern Sawtooths (southern Frank Church Wilderness)? I was thinking about hiking in to Langer Lake in the next week or so.
Was thinking it should be okay based on nearby SNOTEL sites, and the trail seems mostly south facing, but I dont want a total mud-fest either.

The area around Redfish Lake and south has solid snow cover from about 8500-8800 feet. The lakes are still frozen at about that same level. The snow is melting fast on the flats, but the peaks seem to be holding the snow fairly well. This is south of where you are thinking, but should be similar conditions in the north.

We are thinking of the same trip next week July 3-7. Did you go? Just curious if there was still a lot of snow.

We went the last weekend of June last year and had to deal with quite a bit of snow near the lakes. This year's melt-off seems to be running nearly 2 weeks behind last year's schedule, so you may or may not have snow at Langer Lake this coming weekend. Some warm temps this week could help though.

Got into Langer Lake this week. There was still a good bit of snow across the trail for a couple hundred yard section. The lake was thawed with lots of hungry fish. Although there is still a lot of snow around, there were some clear spots to camp. Bugs are already bad!!
