For those of us who don't know these mountains off the bat can we ask 'yes or no" questions? |

Is it fair to work as a group, sort of think out loud here?
For instance, I notice the picture includes burnt trees....... |

I'm thinking Sawtooths, Boises, or Salmon River Range judging by the rugged looking rock that I'm guessing is granite. There are only a few places in the Boises that are this rugged though. I don't know of as many burnt out areas in the Sawtooths but I know there are a lot in the other two ranges. |

That the answer will come from Greg Parker, Sean Duffy, or Luddite. |

Looks like lower elevation terrain in the Sawtooths. Grandjean / S Fork of the Payette area? Grandjean Peak ? |

Nope. Not in the Sawtooths. |

Is this an actual local high point or just bluffs in a western Idaho river canyon? |

Except for the burned trees, it looks like the Leslie Gulch area near Owyhee Reservoir. |

It is a named geological feature. It is considered a "pillar" according to the USGS. It is in a western Idaho river canyon and I took this photo from water, not land. |

I wanna say Hells Canyon/7 Devils area, but I believe that area is more Basalt than Granite. |
