I heard a rumour doing the rounds that the BCBC didn't go to the Forum in January, because "it got the date wrong". Tell me it isn't true?!

Also feedback on the website for Tony:

The Latest News|Traders page is goofed. Can't quite see what's gone wrong, something fairly obvious though! ;-)

regards to one and all,

What is the truth?

Jon Harris has exposed the weakness of his position. The Forum he refers to was not in January, and yet he talks about our getting our dates wrong!

He has also conveniently overlooked the fact that our Chairman (well over retirement age) travelled the length of the country at his own expense in order to attend the Edinburgh Forum, only a few weeks after attending the BCBC Forum at Grimsby.

It is very easy for Jon Harris to criticise or scoff from the comfort of his armchair, but where was he? Did he attend Grimsby? Did he attend Edinburgh? If not, it doesn't give him a leg to stand on. People are judged, not on what they say, but on what they do.

Regarding the pathetic notice from The Bug, I am sorry he is disappointed if our editor has seen fit to delete what he considers offensive or abusive, but the BCBC prefers to carry on its business with courtesy and politeness. We can take criticism if it is justified, provided it leads to constructive progress and benefit in the future. Carping, sniping and raking through the ashes of the past is pointless and unproductive.

I would like to ask him why, on its own website, the BCBC should be expected to publicly display mindless graffiti or inaccurate speculations against itself. Bearing in mind that this website is visited by many CBers from America and Australia (to name the main ones), what sort of image would this give of the British CBer's mentality?

There are plenty of other places on the Web where people with nothing better to do can occupy themselves. Go there, for goodness sake.

Gentlemen,

>Jon Harris has exposed the weakness of his position. The Forum he refers to was not in January, and yet he talks about our getting our dates wrong!

What i wrote, somewhat toungue in check was this: "I heard a rumour doing the rounds that the BCBC didn't go to the Forum in January, because "it got the date wrong". Tell me it isn't true?!"

So instead of saying with a smile, "I think you've shot yourself in the foot here Jon, the event was in December!" you jump in the deep end. Good grief!

>He has also conveniently overlooked the fact that our Chairman (well over retirement age) travelled the length of the country at his own expense in order to attend the Edinburgh Forum, only a few weeks after attending the BCBC Forum at Grimsby.

The RA only mentions that both George Landsdowne and Tony Jaconelli sent their apologies, isn't George in the chair? There were no other BCBC representative on the panel AT ALL.

The argument that because the Chairman is over retirement age and having to fund his own transport costs, whilst laudable, should not be reason for the only nationally recognised CB body failing to have someone at this meeting, in my opinion.

>It is very easy for Jon Harris to criticise or scoff from the comfort of his armchair, but where was he? Did he attend Grimsby? Did he attend Edinburgh? If not, it doesn't give him a leg to stand on. People are judged, not on what they say, but on what they do.

Of course they are, and not for the first time you and the other directors have totally missed the point. People like me, the little guys, rely on people like you (because this is the responsibility of the office you hold) to go and represent them at these functions. If you feel unable to fulfil this function, then for goodness sake stand aside, and let another body do the job properly.

>Regarding the pathetic notice from The Bug, I am sorry he is disappointed if our editor has seen fit to delete what he considers offensive or abusive, but the BCBC prefers to carry on its business with courtesy and politeness.

And anyone should have no objection to you deleting any message containing offensive language.

> We can take criticism if it is justified, provided it leads to constructive progress and benefit in the future. Carping, sniping and raking through the ashes of the past is pointless and unproductive.

Of course, i couldn't agree more. I trust my helpful comment from my previous message: "The Latest News|Traders page is goofed. Can't quite see what's gone wrong, something fairly obvious though! ;-)" was not seen as carping or sniping. As a builder of websites it's the done thing to point out web page errors, a little "thank you for pointing it out!" doesn't go amiss either...

Here's hoping that a sense of humour and duty will permeate the annals of the BCBC in the not to distant future.

and for gawds sake, get another picture of George, do you want to scare people away? Jeez! ;-)

All the best to one and all,

Jon Harris
