High FSH-friendly fertility treatment in Boston

by Rachel

I've heard that Dr. Oskowitz at Boston IVF is high FSH-friendly, although I haven't seen him yet myself. I am 39 with a very abnormal clomid challenge test (day3= 16.7 and day 10= 44!) I was treated at Reproductive science center in Lexington MA by Dr. Pang, who pretty much acted like I was a number and didn't take my situation into individual consideration at all. He also has AWFUL bedside manner. Unfortunately there is a lot of competition among IVF centers in Boston so they all want to exclude anyone who might bring their success stats down. There is one place where this is different--at MGH they have a reproductive endocrine clinic which does not do IVF (not the Vincent center, in other words)Here is the link: www.massgeneral.org/reproendo/pages/reu_aboutus.htm

The docs there are mostly women and the are not typical REs in that most of them do research on various fertility issues, but will also treat women with high FSH with gonadotropins. Instead of telling me they wouldn't treat me, they gave me a choice about having treatment, without misleading me about the likelihood it will work. And they don't do the "you'll never get pregnant" song and dance. The reason other REs do that is because they want you to buy a donor egg from them. At MGH they figured out I ovulate late and helped me ovulate earlier my last cycle. They also figured out that I have a gene that is likely to be related to my high FSH/ ovarian problem, a gene variant for the Fragile X syndrome. Long story short, it won't help me to get pregnant knowing I have this gene, but if I do get pregnant I will definitely have CVS/amnio to see if the gene expands to the full Fragile X mutation. I am very down on typical REs because I've seen three already (besides these ones at MGH) and not one of them identified my late ovulation or gene issue, probably because they are more interested in finding out if you will make them money by being a successful IVF candidate than in figuring out your particular issue. Sorry for the rant but I am fed up.
