hmmmm-went to my cardio the 5th. He asked me if I wanted to be his guina pig.
I started say "for what" and he stopped me and said-"say yes or no" I said yes.
His nurse went and got 2 folders, and he pointed to one and said he wanted to use that one. We had been talking about Effient, and I told him there was no way I could cont. taking it. The first prescription was free-but the dang stuff costs over $300. a month. (after stents-they want you on a med to prevent clots-
sometimes for a month, or a year, or for the rest of your life)
The genetic test was buccal swabs on both sides -easy peasy. What will come back is if 1) I can take Plavix-they have found it doesn't work on alot of people with a certain genetic make-up) 2) apparently it checks alot of other meds too.
can't wait to see the results. they say this may be a tool of the future for Dr.s to have for all their pts.
I actually just read today about use of genetic testing for breast cancer.
Has any body else had this done?
p.s. they gave me 3 weeks supply of Effient-they said we should know by then
if I can take Plavix instead
