I fail to see the connection. I think that it's night and day when comparing people to animals. Human beings have the potential recognize our responsibility to refrain from interfering with the rights of others, which means that we, in turn, get to have these rights ourselves. Animals cannot recognize this responsibility, so they don't have the same rights.
It is due to this difference that I have a moral opposition to child porn, but only an aesthetic one to dogfights. Now, I'm a dog lover myself and have two labs, so I'm not saying that I agree with people who run dogfights. I'm just saying that the law isn't where to nail them. Don't hire them, don't let them shop in your stores, call them assholes in public, and tell them that they are not welcome on your property, but I don't know that we need to get the government involved in this one.
