What would Penn think of this?

I don't know if they are introducing these in The States too, but I think I know what Penn would think.

PB,
My admittedly limited knowledge of the inner workings of Penn's mind lead me to believe that upon reading this article, he'd probably order one of these bad boys to be installed in the Slammer. I can't be the only one who thinks it's kinda hot...

Hi,

I sent the link to Penn and he said:

"It doesn't change anything for me. I'm all for seeing everyone naked all the time and letting people see me naked -- it's the security itself that bothers me -- there is no good way, it's all wrong."

Sincerely,
Audrey

Darn! Paul beat me to it.

I think the fuss over this is interesting, only because many (most? all?) clothing store dressing rooms have been monitored for decades. Back when my mother worked for a high end store in the 1970's, they used two-way mirrors. These days they use video surveillance.

Still, I dislike the invasion of privacy. If someone doesn't choose for me to see their genitals, then I respect that as much as if they don't want me going through their mail (however much I might enjoy both activities). At least in a dressing room, people can choose to keep on their underwear. These machines don't even give you that!

On the other hand, just think of the fun places we could put our Security Edition Bill of Rights cards!

You can see a video of how it works and some other new airport security technology here: http://www.abc.net.au/7.30/ Scroll down to the 4th video.
Some of what they were saying was truly scary.

This will be a lot faster to get through an airport and still be assured that there will be security in place. If only people could get over the whole shame of nudity issue. It really is quite silly, but I am sure that without this, that we will still be taking our shoes off at the airports and wasting more time at the airport. I could see the religious right joining the ACLU on this.

Ben,
Do you know what would be even faster? Getting rid of government regulations on this and letting the airlines set their own security standards.
That way, Penn and I could take out families on "Bacon and a Kiss Airlines", while the really paranoid folks could go on the "Total Security Airlines", where everyone must stay naked throughout the entire flight, and the flight attendants inject everyone with a mild sedative prior to take off.
