Response to Let me take another cut at what I'm trying to convey.

 

whether there's any proof that the institution does help perpetuate the faith (or any other kind of organizational mission) intact. After all, many schisms have occurred on the grounds that the old church (party, etc) had strayed from its original mission. Indeed, insofar as "power corrupts," it might be argued that institutionalization actually accelerates a movement's straying from its founding intent.
