Descent

by Nightmare

He was back.

He had never left the vicinity of this twisted pocket of darkness which burned the beauteous face of the Chrysalis Forest like a scar, but now he was back. The Dark Forest seemed more horrific now, more malicious, and was more dangerous than it had ever been before.

And now that the presence of Nightmare had returned to haunt this festering corruption like the permanence of Past's residue, it seemed the entirety of Chaos greeted him in reverence as he watched the conflict between the clashing forces of ponies below.

Naomh. Celaeno. Snowy. Katrina. Drach.

What was this..? His wings were throbbing.. There seemed to be an unseen visitor among them as well..

His black velvet face was as oblivious as the eternity of death as he watched. The insane sinhalite gems gleamed with malicious delight.

It was all so.. utterly amusing.

Nightmare almost felt regretful that he had to punish Katrina for taking things into her own hands. However, that would all have to wait for later. He would not end the wretch's life.. for that would only eliminate one of those like-minded that existed in such sparse numbers here in the sickening happiness of Dream Valley, and they needed as many allies as they could get.

Insanity.

Could this land feel it now? This was the heart of where he would plant the seed for the Final Union, where Chaos and Strife would climax into Armageddon. Here was where he wanted the start of the present to be erased, to give birth to a future anew.. an ultimate future where all would begin as equals..

He watched everything now, how amusing it was, how disgusting it all was. It almost brought a bitter gall to his tongue.

See the decadence in this present.. where we fight one another for vengeance.. for self-gain.. or for no reason at all. Dark Angel.. thou and this future Dark Queen seem to share an unspoken past.. Wherefore dost thy path twist in such a way..? When thy opponent comes to join us in our agony.. perhaps then.. perhaps then.. my intentions shalt be better understood.. Although perhaps I shouldst nay give a butterfly's wing..

Insanity.

He was waiting. Nightmare did not make a move to release any hint to the others that he was present. He only watched, waiting in his web, waiting for his prey. They had their own ends to meet.. and so did he.

The ebony pegasus knew that he would come soon, the one with the song to free the possessed, the one who had once given his song to him..

And as he waited, he watched.. and listened. There were the screams of hate and desperation, the shrieks of worry and fear, but above all, he could hear the maniacal laughter of the Black Winds. He could hear his own insanity.

He simply watched.. as Celaeno challenged Naomh to free Snowy, watched the hateful fire in her blood-hued eyes..

Why..? These are.. These are his soldiers.. Mother why..? Why are they doing this to us..? We never did anything to them..

Rainbows help us, my dearest, rainbows bless us..! They're coming.. Our lord has cursed us.. Run, quickly, my son!

Mother..? But what about Father and..?

RUN!!!

Yes.. Nightmare could see the very same fire in Celaeno's eyes. He knew not how hers burned, but it was there. That poor child.. that poor child caught in the flames of betrayal.. The black pegasus could still remember him.. How odd..

Insanity.

Yes, insanity. It seemed to be the only thing driving anyone these days, didn't it?
