My sisters and I went to the July 3rd concert at Ravinia and the band was great. It was H-O-T and humid that night and I could see that the girls (both of whom were wearing big wigs) were dying under the lights. The Ravinia crowd was too uptight in their kahaki shorts and polo shirts. I got some dirty looks and a few "would you sit DOWN please" from some symphony dwellers who must have been expecting YoYo Ma or someone else that night. After about the 3rd request for me to stop dancing and "sit DOWN please" I moved to the isle and danced there. I eventually worked my way to the front of the stage where I was spotted by Fred who rushed over to me and sang 'to' me a few times.
I was wearing a polka dot halter dress, big hair, platform sandals and serious makeup. The symphony dwellers looked at me like I was insane "HELLO-the B-52'S PEOPLE!!!" I was the only one I saw who was dressed "B-52s style". Keith Strickland was right in front of me jamming on his guitar. After playing an encore of Love Shack (the audience BLEW Cindy's "TIN ROOF RUSTED" and she rolled her eyes) and Rock Lobster, Keith came towards me and handed me his guitar pick, ok, I was hollaring "pick pick" but it worked and I think he appreciated my efforts to look groovy for their show. I bought 2 t-shirts and a cd that night but the guitar pick is my favorite!
