Well, I ordered the Time of Orchids + Kate CD a few weeks ago from the band itself, after getting the info. from this message board, and I just got it a few days ago and WHOAH!, I can't believe how awesome it is! I'd never heard of Time of Orchids before, and though I heard about the CD with Kate, I had no idea that it would be this good.
It's got Kate singing the strangest lyrics she's sung since "Whammy!". It's Kate desperately shrieking like she does on "Big Bird", but with like Mr. Bungle or Frank Zappa as a backing band. These guys are serious musicians, but are obviously very funny and very strange people. They have to be to come up with something as "Gone Fishin'", which is as much about fishing as "Cake" is about cake, and which features Kate harmonizing with herself, whispering about lilypads, and screaming about innertubes. Really.
Anyway, Dave, thanks for letting me know about this CD. Since we're gonna have to wait a while to get some new B's, it's great to know that Time of Orchids are supplying us fans with something we can really sink our teeth into. I can't recommend this album highly enough for any real B'52's fan.
