BBC U.K. does "BIO" on the B-52's!

by DOA U.K. Information Station (no login)

B-52's (The)
The quirky appearance, stage antics and lyrical content of the B-52's belie a formidable musical ability, as the band's rhythmically perfect pop songs show many influences, including 50s rock 'n' roll, punk and commercial dance music. However, it was the late 70s' new-wave music fans that took them to their hearts. The B-52's were formed in Athens, Georgia, USA, in 1976, and took their name from the bouffant hairstyles worn by Kate Pierson (b. 27 April 1948, Weehawken, New Jersey, USA; organ, vocals) and Cindy Wilson (b. 28 February 1957, Athens, Georgia, USA; guitar, vocals). The line-up was completed by Cindy's brother Ricky (b. 19 March 1953, Athens, Georgia, USA, d. 12 October 1985; guitar), Fred Schneider (b. 1 July 1951, Newark, Georgia, USA; keyboards, vocals) and Keith Strickland (b. 26 October 1953, Athens, Georgia, USA; drums). The lyrically bizarre but musically thunderous "Rock Lobster' was originally a private pressing of 2,000 copies and came to the notice of the perceptive Chris Blackwell, who signed them to Island Records in the UK. Their debut, B-52"s, became a strong seller and established the band as a highly regarded unit with a particularly strong following on the American campus circuit during the early 80s........

John Lennon credits "Rock Lobster!"

by DOA U.K. Information Station (no login)

Go to: http://www.bbc.co.uk/totp2/features/top5/beatles.shtml

JOHN LENNON
The man who formed the most succesful band of all time, and one of the icons of the rock 'n' roll era. John spent the final years of his life devoting his time to raising son Sean, but was roused to make music again after hearing the B-52's immortal kitsch classic 'Rock Lobster'. The '52's wailing vocals reminded him so much of banshee-throated wife Yoko, he felt the pop world was finally ready for them to make their comeback album. Well, he was half right...

Pete Burns of Dead or Alive compliments Cindy Wilson!!!

Pete Burns Picks His All-Time Favorite Records

B52s: Girl from Ipanema Goes to Greenland

I LOVE the way Cindy Wilson sings such a nonsensical lyric and makes it sound so full of emotion. The yearning and teenage angst in her voice is fantastic. One of the most under-rated and plagiarized groups.

No posts in a month and a half. No point in continuing really. Makes the site look dead (which it isn't)

Please don't even joke about removing this. Everything goes through cycles. This is a cool place for B-52 people to check out and have fun.

Fair Trade ... Looking for "Girl From Ipanema" Remix

by (no login)

Sounds like a fair trade to me.

By the way, I've tried finding a copy of "Girl From Ipanema Goes To Greenland" maxi-single remixes. Do you or anyone else out there have a copy they could burn for me?

Will be more than glad to provide a blank disk and pay for the cost of time, trouble as well as postage and handling.

Thanks,

Chuck

Cosmic Thing and Good Stuff re-released? Plus more July 4th!

by (no login)

I read somewhere that the Cosmic Thing and Good Stuff cd's were being remastered and re-released? Does anybody have any knowledge of this?

I have a bit to add about the show on July 4th. Poor turnout! Mabye because of the holiday? The arena was about half full, mabye around 1500? After the show they quickly boarded the bus. The only person that stopped to chat was Sara Lee who said that she was really sorry but they were making them board the bus immediately. I really wanted to meet Kate, my 5 year old son is in love with her! We waited in line 2 hours before the show and stood right in front. My son didnt take his eyes off of Kate, good taste! Anyways off to Baltimore they went. Welcome back home Fred and a belated Happy Birthday!
