I am always glad to find another new board to visit. I would like to start off on this one with the subject of ezine publishing. I have been publishing for a year now and notice that a lot of people buy their subscribers. I would like to get other publishers thoughts on this. To me, it seems like there would be no personal satisfaction from getting subs in this way. My subscriber base is steadily and (maybe slowly) growing, but I get an immense feeling of accomplishment because I do not pay for my subs. I have heard others who feel the same way and would like to get more thoughts on this subject. Thank you for your input!

Hi Terri,
Glad you are here. Here is my thoughts on paying to get subscribers. I agree with you, if I have subscribers, I want them to be loyal to me. I cannot afford to pay for them, if I must do that yhen I will need to give up my newsletter.
Thanks,
Vern Anderson

Hi Terri
I've been working on putting together my own ezine/newsletter and this is the first I've heard anything on "buying" subscribers. Could you clarify
what you mean by that?
Thanks and I'll certainly check back here often.
Guess that's two things new to me...the second being this forum to ask questions and get other publishers' opinions and input.

There are services that will get you subscibers and charge you maybe .10 or .15 apiece. I have heard some publishers say they have had good luck with it, but to me it just doesn't seem a good way of getting subscribers. I know of others who feel the same way and thought it would make for an interesting topic.
Forums such as this are a great way to get subscribers. Getting involved in the conversations and getting your name well known can get you a lot of loyal subs.

Hi Terri...
I tried one of those pay services, where you pay I think 15 cents a subscriber or something like that. It never worked very well.
I feel like newsletter subscribers are gold. They're very hard to come by, and they're equally tough to keep. You never know when an article you write, or an ad you feature will set off 4 or 5 of them to unsubscribe. That's life.
You can never seem to please all of them.
I talk to mine like they're my friends. My newsletter started out being cold and lifeless and "professional". I thought that was what they were looking for.
After adding a Publisher's Cave section, a letters to the editor section, and being more personal, my subscriber list quadrupled. Imagine dat.
:O)
As for getting more subscribers, I get them from tons of different places. Unexpected, until I start looking at my webstats.
One of the biggest sources is when I post on a board like this.
Imagine dat.
:O)
Have a great day!
Lynne

Glad to see you here! I agree completely about making your ezine personal and friendly. I have seen some cold, dead ezines and then there are the ones that feel like you are with a friend. Those are the ones that will do well.
