Poles in Alloa

Robert, thanks so much for your reply. I'm a writer living in London, but originate from Alva, and my mother made a comment a couple of months ago about the old POW camp that was in Fishcross during WWII, which got me thinking about why the Poles were stationed in that area, etc. I've conducted extensive research into the subject, but very little is actually written down about this, probably due to its sensitive nature. My initial interest was the Displaced Persons camp that was in Fishcross which held Italian interns, but upon further research established that many Poles had been stationed in the area.

I visited my parents in December and researched further about this at the local library, and a couple of people there are assisting me with the research. I do have a couple of local historians to contact as well but with Christmas, etc I basically ran out of time! However, what I thought would be a simple subject to research has turned into a massive project! The PRO is I think the best place to go for hard evidence, but the local newspaper ran an ad for me last week seeking memories, etc so hopefully I can gleam further information from them.

Any further information you could provide would be gratefully received. I'm so grateful to you for your response, and look forward to hearing from you.

With kind regards.

Jenni Johnston
