Napier & DaBrowa Continued...

by

Our oral tradition says that a Napier married a DaBrowa noblewoman who had lands in Poland in the Poznan region. Some say he was an ambassador from Scotland, but this is questionable. If anyone could shed some light on this question, it would be much appreciated.

Kostka Napierski

by

I am very interested in finding out more about Kostka Napierski. He led a peasents rebellion in 1651. All of the biographies I've been able to find are in Polish, which I've found to be very difficult to decipher. In particular, he says something about his accent, which I'm very curious about. Is there someone in your organization who could relate his story with a bit of detail??

Scottish Polish Connections--Napier & DaBrowa

by

I am reseaching a possible link between the Napiers and various Polish family names such as Napieralski, Napierski, Napierala, Napierkowski, et al. Oral tradition in at least 3 families suggests a link. If there is evidence, it is most likely to be found in Scotland. Kostka Napierski is a famous Pole who may have sprung from such a bonding.

Info requested on Napieralski, Maciejczak

by

I'm planning on visiting Poznan sometime in 2002 to trace my family roots. My great-grandfather's name was Julius Napieralski supposedly from Poznan. He was married to Helen Napieralski. I think Julius had a sister Kazimir Napieralski. I have a family picture of Julius, Helen (they appear to be about 70 years old)and several of their children from the late 1800s or early 1900s that I'm willing to share with anyone that's interested. My mother (Sophie Maciejczak-Napieralski-Milanowski) said that Julius and Helen's children's names were Helena, Ignatius, Joseph (Jozef), Mary, Jenny (Janina)and Frank (Franek). Their daughter, Helena, married Walter Maciejczak in the early 1900s and resided in Milwaukee, Wisconsin until they died in the 1950s. I'd appreciate any related information anyone may have on the Napieralski, Maciejczak, Milanowski or Wawrzyniak families. Primarily the Napieralski's and Maciejczak's.

Poles in the Aberdeen area

by Catriona Reid

Hello.I wonder if someone can help me please.I am trying to find some information on, or someone who knew the Polish father of a friend of mine.Does anyone know of a Branch of a Polish society in the Aberdeen area? I have been trying to trace his ancestry through the internet,so far unsucessfully. His name was Roman Stamm,he settled in the Aberdeen area after WWII, married Elizabeth(Betty)Burke and lived on Blairs Estates, near the seminary. They had a daughter Marysia, in 1966. Roman died in 1977, and his daughter would love to meet some of the people who knew him. I believe Roman taught fishing to some of the younger poles who stayed or were forced to stay after the war.
I know it's a long shot, but I'd be grateful for any information or pointers.
Thank you for taking the time to read this.
Catriona.

Dundee University Archbishop Gawlina Polish Armed Forces in Scotland, History Project

by

I am attempting to build an oral and written history archive at Dundee for future generations of Scots with Polish connections.
We would also like to use the archive to introduce university history students to practical research. This increase knowledge about Poland's contribution to the defeat of Germany, the treatment of its nationals by the Soviets, and perpetuate the memory of the Polsh servicemen and women who fought on all fronts.
We are conducting interviews with the surviving members of the Polish service personnel and will welcome the names of anyone who served here at any point 1940-47.
One of the most interesting aspects has been the memoirs submitted by widows and their children. These are valid research contributions, no matter how small. If anyone would like to pen some memoir, help and guidance will be provided.
This is a continuing project with several other aspects to it. That includes a long term objective of establishing the Polish history as a standard subject offered to undergraduates at all of Scotland's major universities.

LOST FAMILY HISTORY

by FROUDIST

Is there anyone who can help me find out more about my family and it's history. I have exhausted all avenues....this may be my last chance. Our family name of FROUDIST just seems to end at WW2 ...My father apparently served in the Polish Army and like so many others, his family were killed in bombings. We don't have records of where or when his sisters died, or mother. He died in 1969 when I was a small child so I was too young to appreciate asking the right questions.

Is this what happened to others ? We feel totally like orphans... we remembered somewhere being told there may be a Scottish link ...maybe with the HOLT family.....but again have had no luck at all.

PLEASE CAN ANYONE HELP ?

2-write a mail or letter to central Archives Wosjokowego (PL)(adress on the web).
With all information's you have, military and others.
After research and autorisation, they may be find his unity and matriculate number and if you start from that you can maybe find his birth place and look further at the church database of this city.
I hope it will help.

Soviet Deportees - listings ?

by

Now that the "Iron - Curtain" has been raised, I gather that many of the old NKVD files have been (or will be made) accessable.
From what I have heard, the NKVD were particular in keeping strict records.
Does anybody know if the Polish Deportee records from the early years of WW2 still exist, and are they accessable either through the internet or a some type of Russian file system ??.

Regards as always ...

Soviet Deportations of Polish Citizens

by

"Exiled to Siberia" is the detailed biography of a Polish boy deported by the Soviets in 1940 beginning with his childhood in rural Poland to his eventual integration into American society. The work contains extensive notes on the history of that time.
"The Coffee Mill" is a personal essay about a home made coffee mill and its ties to three generations of a Polish family.

Polish Parachute Brigade

by

I am looking for any veterans who served in the 1st Independent Polish Parachute Brigade, who may have served or trained with my father.
I believe that he was based at Ellie with the 3rd battalion, and obviously trained at "monkey grove" at Largo house Leven.
His name was Stanislaw Jucha.
Other information I have :
He was parachuted into Driel (battle of Arnhem) 21/09/44, either from stick no.48 or stick no.58.
Whilst the Brigade was based in the Stamford region in England, he served with the Military Police section.

If anybody has a personal interest in the Brigade, please get in touch, as I collect anything associated with the brigade, from hardware to stories and photographs.

Many thanks

Many thanks for your interest, I know that this is quite a difficult subject to find any details on.
I am in touch with one person from the Peterborough Polish ex-servicemans club, who was in the Brigade and knew my father, but as with a lot of veterans, "the past is the past", and I respect their wishes.

More than meagre information

by

Robert,
What you have found out for me, has taken over 20 years to find since my fathers death. Your "meagre" information is recieved with the utmost gratitude.

Many thanks....and if by any chance any further information passes your way, (that includes anything on the Parachute Brigade)please don't hesitate to get in touch.

I do have various books on the subject, and I have visited the Sikorski Institute in London, and may I say what a fine effort all the volunteers make towards keeping a truly underated museum/institution going.

Dear Gary,
Thank you for your last message - I am pleased that I could be of help to you - you are more than welcome.
I hope you now can follow the actions of the battalion in the Driel area.

The information I sent was extracted from a book published in Poland in 1991 about the Polish Para Bde. The information came originally from a military document.

It would help me to know what information you already possess about your father's service in the Polish Army. If I can add anything then I will do. Please email me direct if you wish.

Polish Parachute Brigade

by

In response to your message I write to inform you that my father too was a member of the 1st Independent Polish Parachute Brigade and would have been in the same camps as your father. My fathers name was JOZEF NESSEL born 29/9/1911. His background is as follows: He came from the Lowow area of Poland and as a young man did his National Service in the army in Poland. He was a corpral at this time.

Things are lacking a bit in detail next as he didn't talk much about this next part in his life, however prior to his death I did accertain that one night the Russians came and he was arrested and taken away in a cattle truck to the train station where he boarded a train and was taken to a Siberian prison camp. It's unclear why but we believe that he was a partizan working for the Home Army.

When Russia joined with the Allies he went with the Polish forces to North Africa where he found himself in the Air Force. From there he sailed to the UK on the ship Ile de France arriving at liverpool. This was about 1940.

From there he travelled to Scotland and arrived at a camp in Fife at Auchtertool. The Brigade was bing formed at this time and he opted to join.

He was first stationed at Pittenweem in North East Fife and the Elie whist working at Largo House as well where he like your father did parachute training before going to Ringway in Manchester for actual jump training.

He also served in the north of Scotland in such places as Inverary, Petercoulter, Fort George and Marycoulter.

Whilst with the brigade in Scotland he was promoted to sergeant and became a parachute instructor.

My father didn't go to Arnhem again we are unsure what happened but think that a senior officer had him placed in custody until the brigade departed as he had threatened to shoot some senior officer !!.

He obviously stayed and settle in Scotland, having spent time in the Polish Resettlement Core, never ever to return home.

The remainder of his family later resettled in the town of Bytom, Katowickie. I hope this is of some use to you.

Obviously anything you can do for me in the way of information would be greatfully received as I now find the need to learn and understand more.

Many thanks

Hi Garry,
Recently I obtained the whole outfit of a ranked captain. He was the adutant of General Sosoboski. This outfit includes camouflage drop jacket, battle dress with all insignias and a beret with an eagle and three stars. In addition I have lady battle dress with all parachute brigade insignias plus a special embroided badge Polska YMCA. Later on this lady married this captain. Could you please indicate how much this merchendise is worth and can you please indicate whether it is a good idea to sell it.
