6th Annual Spectacular Clinic and TD Tourney

by (no login)

The AAU, USA Wrestling, Huskerland, and NSWCA have combined their resources to bring in Olympic and World Champion Kevin Jackson, Jeff Prescott (Outstanding wrestler - NCAA) and Class A coach of the year Marty McCurdy for the Nov. 16th clinic. This clinic is very reasonable ( $10) as most of the cost is being subsidized. The 1st 100 entries receives a free T-shirt.TD tourney the night before. Application forms available on the Neb. usa website or the Huskerland website or call 308-237-3502 for more info. Clinic to be held at Kearney High School.

SUMMIT MEETING III

by (no login)

The third wrestling summit meeting will be held Friday at the Bob Devaney Sports Center starting around 5 pm. There is another event going on at the BDSC at that time, so the meeting will be held in one of two venues...the press room or the wrestling room. It is suggested that you get to the venue that afternoon for the UNL clinic, which will start around 1-1:30 that afternoon.

Why?

by Anonymous (no login)

Too bad we couldn't keep the forum free and anonymous, it just seems like no one writes anything anymore. This is a wrestling forum and a was great way to find out who was at what weight, or where they were and you could find out all kinds of great info, now it's just shut down. Who cares about the trash talkers no one gave any credit to there post anyway. It's ok to pay for reviews and breakdowns but I'm not happy with the way the forum shutdown. Now it seems that only 4 or 5 different people post anymore. Like the paysite but not the forum part.

Rutledge, Schulters, Weiman could all be at GI Invite

by Tom McCann Fan (no login)

The GI Invite might be really tough at 125 lbs. Rutledge, Schulters and Weiman could all be there and I am sure there will be some other really tough competition with the tough teams that will be there. The thing is if someone is going to drop a weight I think they will have to do it by the GI invite because I think it is the last chance to certify.

Since they both wrestle for Millard West both McCord and Schulters cannot be at 125. They are both tough as nails and with one of them and Rutledge and Weiman GI invite will be tough at 125 lbs.

125 thoughts

by Anonymous (no login)

shulters will be at 125 but will be out till after xmas because of knee surgery or something like that. McCord will be at least 130-135. Rutledge is the leading candidate to win 125. Wiemann is a weight cutting freak so look for him to duck Rutledge and head to better waters at 119, but 119 will be loaded and weight cutting could be interesting. Possible for Ayala to go 125 or 130.

Why would he duck Rutledge,in my oppinion Wiemann would beat him.He tends to not get much credit maybe cause he's not from Metro or Lincoln but he was pretty much unbeatable last year.I'd go so far as to say he's top 1 or 2 at his weight all class. There's prob some guys who've wrestled them both with oppinions?

Agreed on Weimann. indications lead to that conclusion

by Anonymous (no login)

Hey, his dad has even expressed the notion that he will go down to 119 even though it will be a really tough cut. Would the old man say a word if they were confident that they could get Rutledge by the end of the year? The old man can say all he wants that they are NOT afraid of anyone, but you wait, they will cut the kid to 119 even if they have to cut a leg off to get him away from Rutledge; they want a state title! For my money, I think the kid will suffer and in the end have trouble at state maintaining the weight/strength over three days.

PS. Would love to take some money from the guy who thinks wiemann will beat Rutledge and who thinks Wiemann will stay at 125, but alas.....anon!

I really don't want to put my name on here because it will just cause a stink with pw, but I think the kid will go down to 119 judging from talk that I have heard personally. pw talks a lot about how he would whip this guy or that guy who talks negative about the kid, but the reality is that he has no confidence his kid can win at 125. just being honest from norfolk!!!!!!!

rutledge/wiemann

by Anonymous (no login)

your from norfolk? man why are you doggin on someone from your own town? haha thats pretty stupid. i would never talk bad about someone from my home town. i think that a wiemann rutledge match would be more than people think it would. jeff is tough but wiemann is too and i dont think they have wrestled yet so who knows what would happen. i have also heard through the grapevine that josh is going to most likely go 125 and not worry about who is there. if i am correct ONE of the reasons that he cut the weight last year was for the team. he was the only one that could have made the drop and without it they would have been open at 112. i also remember norfolk winning many duals and a few tournaments by just a few points....so it really does seem like it was in the best interest of the team. it also seemed to catch up to him at the end of the season. this is why i think he is going to be more likely not to drop the weight this year to 119. i am not saying wieman will win it this year either. actually i think that 125 is going to be a tough ass wieght class this year. there will be 4 or 5 guys that could easily get to the finals with rutledge probably being the favorite. he had an awesome year last year and as i hear has only gotten better. id sure like to see the matches at the g.i. tournament tho. it will be a great year to watch and see what happens here.

Just because we are from Norfolk doesnt mean we dont support wiemann. But expressing your opinion with out leaving your name in this town is a pretty good idea.
I dont know if josh cut weight last year to "help the team" or not but lets face it this is his last chance and he'll be doing what ever he thinks it takes to get a gold medal, period... Weimann's have been at this a long time and in wrestling you sacrifice a lot in hopes of that medal. cause lets face it, nobody remembers you if you get anything less than gold...

Vacanti, Gable, and Gable will dominate.

by (no login)

Matt Vacanti will wrestle at either 103 or 112 and dominate all of his competition this year. At the 215lb weight class Jared Gable will only see tough competition from Jared Esparamer from Millard South and Gable should be able to prevail. At 275lbs Jake Gable's only competition is Steve Schmitt from Westside. Jake has a 5-0 record against Schmitt in his career.

Also look for big impacts from Arocho, John Payne, John Branigan, and Josh Glazebrook

tyler update

by tyes papa (no login)

Tyler is doing great. He still is progressing slowly but is still moving forward and that is awesome for us. He is in school in the morning and in therapy in the afternoon. He works out as much as he can at the ymca thanks to brandon brill and soon he will be going up to work on the mats with coach McCann and the other wrestlers at the high school a couple nights a week also. he still needs a little assistance walking but is getting so much stronger. His right arm is getting better and he is eating and writing with it but it is still difficult for him. Best of all in the last week his short term memory has shown signs of improvement which is a huge obstacle for him. His tremoring is also improving. I got the pleasure of wrestling with him the other day a little bit and yes he can still hook up the high flier and yes he can maybe? beat his father. We had to stop him before we found that out!! He laughs alot and is in high spirits. Again thanks for everything

Thank you for the update. This is great news.
Bless Brandon Brille and Coach McCann for continuing to help Tyler. We should never under estimate the power of prayer and friendship.

We hope he keeps improving and we continue to pray for him.
Keep it up Tyler!

I wouldn't put Ruskamp so high up in the ratings. He never evan placed at state last year. I would put him maybe 6th or not even on there. I am shure their are better wretlers than him in class C.

This was a great camp last year. I would suggest going to it. Chris Blair is an oustanding instructor. My kid benifited greatly from it. Also there is an extra to this camp. The boys are taught about more important things in life. Chris Blair is a great example of a Christian athlete.

They will pry be in tottaly different weight classes. I think rucker will pry wrestle around 119 or 125 and hunter will pry wrestle 112 this year. Plus it wouldn't be that great of a match because Rucker doesn't wrestle that much out of season compared to Hunter. Hunter would cream Rucker no dought about it.

I can't believe what I am reading below. Ross has gone to a great deal of time and expense to give us a forum to dicuss the great sport of wrestling, and you guys are whining about 20 bucks! You spend more than that on sodas and/or beer in a week!

Whatever information I get from the page, I will sell it to whoever wants it for $1.00.

Hey, if Ross can benefit from people who want to pay for stuff, why can't I

This sucks, but a buck is a buck.

Ross - make sure somewhere on your website (on every page would be ideal) you put a copyright on there. Without it, these yahoos CAN do the ol' copy-and-paste and legally get away with it.

If you'll notice, on page 2 of every issue in NWI there is a copyright notice. You can use the verbage from that if you'd like and change the names where appropriate.

My post supports Ross's copyright claim. What it says is that regardelss of whether you post a copyright notice, material is still copyrighted. A further safeguard would be to require members to agree that they won't post premium content elsewhere without permission. As a producer of internet content, I am a firm believer in following the law. To remove someone's content and post it elsewhere is stealing.

One thing you could do...

...when people sign up for the premium is to include an agreement that they have to agree to before their membership is approved. Then if they take the premium copy and post it somewhere, they would be in violation of the agreement and the copyrights that go with it.

171

1. Kolby Nelson Creighton
2. Caleb Mitchell Norfolk Catholic
3. John Culver Milford
4. Kirk Molocek Stanton
5. Paul Ridder Battle Creek
6. Jordan Gausman Thayer Central / Marty Henry Neligh O

189

1. Matt Sage Creighton
2. Zach Loberg North Bend
3. Erin Retzlaff Thayer Central
4. Shawn Matthiessen Milford
5. Josh Ruppert Madison
6. Matthew Broeker Southern Valley

I also heard Jeff Puls from Norfolk Catholic might go 189. He would jump in pretty high if he does.

Just speculation. I do not mean to slight anyone. I do have to do the ratings this year so if anyone has words of wisdom for me I would greatly appreciate it.

Chance Gerdes from BDD is right there as well. He is 3-1 against both retzlaff and mathiessen. All three of these guys will be at Friend the first meet of the season so I guess we'll see. He also lost two one point matches to blecha of superior last year. He is improved from last year and might crack your top 6 at some point, or maybe not. I'm just putting his name out there as a contender. Thanks for your hard work! Good luck this season.

at the wrong line, Albers from BDD beat him three times two years ago. So Gerdes is 0-3 against mattheisen during high school, and 1-3 against Retzlaff. They were both better than him last year but the gap is closing. All I'm saying is that he is a contender who deserves to have his name out there. I apologize about misreading the line scores from two years ago, it was albers not gerdes that beat milford.

I went back and read my original post and it was confusing as I wrote 3-1 and I should have typed 1-3 against both. But as you can read in another post it should have read 1-3 and 0-3 respectively. I shouldn't have written anything until after the first meet to see who has improved the most over the last six months. I apologize for any confusion or playing favorites for my own kids, I just wanted his name out there as a contender.

Thanks for the good words. Again I won't apologize though as I provide a service to people in Nebraska that want to follow wrestling. Your membership basically goes towards keeping an Ad free forum, a monthly fee which I pay to keep the site up and getting alot of analysis throughout the entire year. I pay $10 a month for Huskers Illustrated so compare that to $2 a month and it's not a big cost. About 90% of the people registered on the forum so far are insiders. And of course you can post on either board you want to if you have a membership.

Question

by Anonymous (no login)

So do you figure you will have stuff on your site that we can't already get through Mikey C. and his publication (which is free?). I know you will have your own insights and of course the elite 30, but a lot of the wrestling news is presented in NWI, and you guys do work collaboratively, don't you? Second question. Can someone else pick up this wrestling forum or create one like this to use? I thought this once was particularly entertaining. Really don't see the new one having the SPARK. Third question (sorry about the questions, I don't want to make you angry). What is the overall cost of keeping your site open per month? Sooner or later, it will be profit bearing, won't it?

To answer

by HB (no login)

The good thing about all the different sites is that they each have their own niche. Mike is particularly good at getting the stories and letting people know exactly what happened when. My site is a little different-my goal has never been "news." I've always been more of an analyst and observer of things that happen. I want to leave the news side of the business to people that enjoy doing that. Likewise I'm not sure alot of people want to do the analysis side. As far as this forum I'm sure you could recreate another one. But the days of free forums are going fast. The people that run this forum obviously have to have 10 pop up ads to cover their costs. The new forum will be better in the long run once wrestling season starts to get closer. As with anything new, it just takes a little adjustment time.
As far my costs well it has cost several thousand dollars to have the new website the way I want and my ongoing costs are dependent on how much traffic is on the site. I guess I can't even give a clear answer on that because I really don't know. I just hope I don't lose money. As far as anything I keep-that would be gravy. Working a full time job and then coming home, staying up until 4 in the morning last season was really tough. But I still like doing this and will continue as long as it's feasible. Hope that answers your questions.

You sure did answer my questions. And for that I thank you! Hope you get the subscriptions that you want. I can tell you it will be tough, though considering all the people in the wrestling world who want money for info:

Amateur Wrestling News
USA Wrestling
Wrestling USA
WIN Magazine
Intermat Premium
NOW your site

I could go on and on, but as you can see, it gets to be pretty expensive out there! I had always thought that your work was totally philanthropic in nature. Oh well, since Dupont went to jail, philanthropic adventures in wrestling have gone down the tube.

Ted
To get to the wrestling site go to augie.edu and go to the athletics link. Go to wrestling form there and you can follow all the stuff in the news. Good luck to Devon and Dru this season. I'll see you at the Valentine Invite.

me Pat Carr

by spanky (no login)

I have changed my mind. I Pat Carr am going to drop down to 112 and take Trevor DeRuiters spot and win the state title at 112. You guys have convinced me that 119 is a tougher weight. and my brother Kevin will win it at 189 and Bellevue East will have 2 state champions, Pat and Kevin Carr you heard it here first

I'm the real Patrick Carr

by Spanky (no login)

For the first yo-yo, I'm the real Patrick Carr. I was at the BE football game at 9:11 P.M. I will be going 119. And for the second yo-yo, you don't know what the hell you're talkin about. Where do you get off tellin my brother and me that we're not going to state? You're so lost you couldn't find your head it's so far up your butt you don't know what you're talkin about. Talk to me when you know what the hell you're talking about. Like AFTER DISTRICTS! Dumbass.
