Does anyone have an opinion on how seward will do this year..now that a lot of there gifted wrestlers graduated? looks like they will be a young team? what do you think?
The AAU, USA Wrestling, Huskerland, and NSWCA have combined their resources to bring in Olympic and World Champion Kevin Jackson, Jeff Prescott (Outstanding wrestler - NCAA) and Class A coach of the year Marty McCurdy for the Nov. 16th clinic. This clinic is very reasonable ( $10) as most of the cost is being subsidized. The 1st 100 entries receives a free T-shirt.TD tourney the night before. Application forms available on the Neb. usa website or the Huskerland website or call 308-237-3502 for more info. Clinic to be held at Kearney High School.
Oliver is the better wrestler here though Larry Salcedo is a very good wrestler and has a younger brother Anthony who is a freshman this year and might suprise some people.
The third wrestling summit meeting will be held Friday at the Bob Devaney Sports Center starting around 5 pm. There is another event going on at the BDSC at that time, so the meeting will be held in one of two venues...the press room or the wrestling room. It is suggested that you get to the venue that afternoon for the UNL clinic, which will start around 1-1:30 that afternoon.
i was wondering what weight hunter and clark from rushville are going to wrestle. also what sorenson, zurek, brester, loeffelholz, and rucker are at. there could be some pretty stacked weight classes.
As of Sunday afternoon, I have received 135 of the 216 post cards sent out to coaches seeking their contact information. If you're on the list below, that means yours is somewhere between your mailbox and my desk...hopefully en route to the latter. Once I get the rest of these, I will send out the preseason information to everybody via e-mail. Your assistance in getting the rest of these cards in is greatly appreciated.

Colby Mccord beat Joe Munch last year at BJSA. In fact I believe he never lost to Joe. Colby will begin Junior High this year, so I hope Mission & LaVista wrestle a dual.
Too bad we couldn't keep the forum free and anonymous, it just seems like no one writes anything anymore. This is a wrestling forum and a was great way to find out who was at what weight, or where they were and you could find out all kinds of great info, now it's just shut down. Who cares about the trash talkers no one gave any credit to there post anyway. It's ok to pay for reviews and breakdowns but I'm not happy with the way the forum shutdown. Now it seems that only 4 or 5 different people post anymore. Like the paysite but not the forum part.
yeah im one of his teamates and hes already working on getting in shape hes been running his pit bull every day since this summer so id say hes doin alright
Not sure where everybody is going but here are some names...
Ellenberger(MS), Skiles (LE), Sheard (OS), Arocho (Papio)
I know I'm missing a couple. Should be a really tough weight class.
Hilario if he goes 145 I heard he might go 140.
Baumgartner from Kearney 125 State Champ might also be there he was 145 in the summer. Throw in Ellenberger ans Arocho and skiles This will be an exciting state meet. Heard Sheard will be 140. He is tough as nails too.
You may say that there will be a darkhorse in 135, but no-one will have the talent or skill to touch Shane Unger. I feel that his loss in the championship last year makes him the most likely top dog in class C.
I'd agree, probly vs.Wiemann.Wiemann wrestled 132 in Kansas City last weekend and got 1st.I think he and Rutledge would be an exciting, balls to the wall match.
Rutledge, Schulters, Weiman could all be at GI Invite
by Tom McCann Fan (no login)
The GI Invite might be really tough at 125 lbs. Rutledge, Schulters and Weiman could all be there and I am sure there will be some other really tough competition with the tough teams that will be there. The thing is if someone is going to drop a weight I think they will have to do it by the GI invite because I think it is the last chance to certify.
Either McCord or Schulters, GI invite will be tough at 125
by Tom McCann Fan (no login)
Since they both wrestle for Millard West both McCord and Schulters cannot be at 125. They are both tough as nails and with one of them and Rutledge and Weiman GI invite will be tough at 125 lbs.
shulters will be at 125 but will be out till after xmas because of knee surgery or something like that. McCord will be at least 130-135. Rutledge is the leading candidate to win 125. Wiemann is a weight cutting freak so look for him to duck Rutledge and head to better waters at 119, but 119 will be loaded and weight cutting could be interesting. Possible for Ayala to go 125 or 130.
Why would he duck Rutledge,in my oppinion Wiemann would beat him.He tends to not get much credit maybe cause he's not from Metro or Lincoln but he was pretty much unbeatable last year.I'd go so far as to say he's top 1 or 2 at his weight all class. There's prob some guys who've wrestled them both with oppinions?
Agreed on Weimann. indications lead to that conclusion
by Anonymous (no login)
Hey, his dad has even expressed the notion that he will go down to 119 even though it will be a really tough cut. Would the old man say a word if they were confident that they could get Rutledge by the end of the year? The old man can say all he wants that they are NOT afraid of anyone, but you wait, they will cut the kid to 119 even if they have to cut a leg off to get him away from Rutledge; they want a state title! For my money, I think the kid will suffer and in the end have trouble at state maintaining the weight/strength over three days.
PS. Would love to take some money from the guy who thinks wiemann will beat Rutledge and who thinks Wiemann will stay at 125, but alas.....anon!
I really don't want to put my name on here because it will just cause a stink with pw, but I think the kid will go down to 119 judging from talk that I have heard personally. pw talks a lot about how he would whip this guy or that guy who talks negative about the kid, but the reality is that he has no confidence his kid can win at 125. just being honest from norfolk!!!!!!!
your from norfolk? man why are you doggin on someone from your own town? haha thats pretty stupid. i would never talk bad about someone from my home town. i think that a wiemann rutledge match would be more than people think it would. jeff is tough but wiemann is too and i dont think they have wrestled yet so who knows what would happen. i have also heard through the grapevine that josh is going to most likely go 125 and not worry about who is there. if i am correct ONE of the reasons that he cut the weight last year was for the team. he was the only one that could have made the drop and without it they would have been open at 112. i also remember norfolk winning many duals and a few tournaments by just a few points....so it really does seem like it was in the best interest of the team. it also seemed to catch up to him at the end of the season. this is why i think he is going to be more likely not to drop the weight this year to 119. i am not saying wieman will win it this year either. actually i think that 125 is going to be a tough ass wieght class this year. there will be 4 or 5 guys that could easily get to the finals with rutledge probably being the favorite. he had an awesome year last year and as i hear has only gotten better. id sure like to see the matches at the g.i. tournament tho. it will be a great year to watch and see what happens here.
Just because we are from Norfolk doesnt mean we dont support wiemann. But expressing your opinion with out leaving your name in this town is a pretty good idea.
I dont know if josh cut weight last year to "help the team" or not but lets face it this is his last chance and he'll be doing what ever he thinks it takes to get a gold medal, period... Weimann's have been at this a long time and in wrestling you sacrifice a lot in hopes of that medal. cause lets face it, nobody remembers you if you get anything less than gold...
Nebraska wrestling will hold a clinic at Skutt Catholic wrestling room on Saturday Nov. 2 from 10am to 2pm. Cost is $20 and the kids recieve a t-shirt. Most of the schools in the eastern part of the state should have been sent something by fax at your schools. Clinicians are Tony Davis- UNI National Champion, Todd Beckerman 2xAll American, Eric Akin 4xAll American. Should be a great time. All ages welcome. Registration starts at 9:30 am.
this is luke i was just wandering if you were gonna come down to the CHS vs LE game thursday night and watch your little spartans get the crap beat out of them. I'll be lookin for ya
I should come down and watch both teams kick the carp out of each other. Then I can beat the crap out of both of you. OH YEA! Duff man is a cautious cat
hey joe you weren't talkin so much trash this weekend when I was tapping you out in submission. You were pud. You and Keenan are wusses. I'm comin down to the game with Coach McCurdy. I'll be looking for ya. Even though Keenan is a bit of a girl, he will still toss the little non-winning discoverers around. Where were you at state cc? I saw some maroon painted fools but you weren't one of them. Shee ya at the game.
maybe you would like to get a little bet going. I will give the spartans a 13 point spread. if you are wise you will take this because our running back has to be the worst i have ever seen. but he will still run over your little girly men.
Matt Vacanti will wrestle at either 103 or 112 and dominate all of his competition this year. At the 215lb weight class Jared Gable will only see tough competition from Jared Esparamer from Millard South and Gable should be able to prevail. At 275lbs Jake Gable's only competition is Steve Schmitt from Westside. Jake has a 5-0 record against Schmitt in his career.
Also look for big impacts from Arocho, John Payne, John Branigan, and Josh Glazebrook
Jake only cracked a bone in his foot. He will still play in the first round of the football playoffs against Lincoln Southeast. He shouldn't miss any time from wrestling.
Just hear-say: We heard Tyler is doing much better.
His grandmother said he goes to school part of the day and does therapy the rest of the day. She said he likes to visit now and can even walk with help.
God Bless him !!!!!
Tyler is doing great. He still is progressing slowly but is still moving forward and that is awesome for us. He is in school in the morning and in therapy in the afternoon. He works out as much as he can at the ymca thanks to brandon brill and soon he will be going up to work on the mats with coach McCann and the other wrestlers at the high school a couple nights a week also. he still needs a little assistance walking but is getting so much stronger. His right arm is getting better and he is eating and writing with it but it is still difficult for him. Best of all in the last week his short term memory has shown signs of improvement which is a huge obstacle for him. His tremoring is also improving. I got the pleasure of wrestling with him the other day a little bit and yes he can still hook up the high flier and yes he can maybe? beat his father. We had to stop him before we found that out!! He laughs alot and is in high spirits. Again thanks for everything
Thank you for the update. This is great news.
Bless Brandon Brille and Coach McCann for continuing to help Tyler. We should never under estimate the power of prayer and friendship.
We hope he keeps improving and we continue to pray for him.
Keep it up Tyler!

I do not mean to leave anyone out or slight anyone. I have to do the ratings so if anyone could give words of wisdom they would be greatly appreciated.
I wouldn't put Ruskamp so high up in the ratings. He never evan placed at state last year. I would put him maybe 6th or not even on there. I am shure their are better wretlers than him in class C.
Where have u been!!! No, he didn't place at State last year it would of been kind of hard since he didn't even wrestle district's. But, I am sure u will hear alot about him this year.
Sport Reach is having a wrestling one day camp for high school wrestlers on Saturday November 2nd at Norris High School. Featured Clinician is Chris Blair, coach at Omaha Gross. For more information or to register go to www.sportreach.org. Cost is $60. There is also a camp this Saturday for middle school age wrestlers.
This was a great camp last year. I would suggest going to it. Chris Blair is an oustanding instructor. My kid benifited greatly from it. Also there is an extra to this camp. The boys are taught about more important things in life. Chris Blair is a great example of a Christian athlete.
Kirk Skiles doing the middle school clinic this Saturday
by Tom McCann Fan (no login)
Kirk Skiles from Lincoln East will be doing the middle school portion of the Sport Reach Wrestling Clinic. The middle school clinic is this Saturday 10-26-02 at Norris High School. Kirk will do a super job and I am sure that middle school kids will get a great deal out of the clinic.
I heard that Hunter is going to wrestle 125 this year cause he won't be able to get down to 119, more than likely Rucker will wrestle 125 also... Does anybody know the facts on this? I think that would be an interesting match if they both met at state? Anyone agree?
They will pry be in tottaly different weight classes. I think rucker will pry wrestle around 119 or 125 and hunter will pry wrestle 112 this year. Plus it wouldn't be that great of a match because Rucker doesn't wrestle that much out of season compared to Hunter. Hunter would cream Rucker no dought about it.
I can't believe what I am reading below. Ross has gone to a great deal of time and expense to give us a forum to dicuss the great sport of wrestling, and you guys are whining about 20 bucks! You spend more than that on sodas and/or beer in a week!
Thanks for the hard work Ross, I'll be signing up soon.
Hey I will post information from Ross's "premium" page on this page. It is ridiculous that Ross wants people to pay to see his selections and thoughts and facts and reports.
Whatever information I get from the page, I will sell it to whoever wants it for $1.00.
Hey, if Ross can benefit from people who want to pay for stuff, why can't I
so if he copys the elite30 and posts it here....there can be legal action? The elite30 is yer opinion, so if he changed a couple things its the same then
Make your own Elite 30 list. Run your own website. Even though you're an anonymous poster I'm sure people have alot of faith in your knowledge of wrestling in the state.
Ross - make sure somewhere on your website (on every page would be ideal) you put a copyright on there. Without it, these yahoos CAN do the ol' copy-and-paste and legally get away with it.
If you'll notice, on page 2 of every issue in NWI there is a copyright notice. You can use the verbage from that if you'd like and change the names where appropriate.
My post supports Ross's copyright claim. What it says is that regardelss of whether you post a copyright notice, material is still copyrighted. A further safeguard would be to require members to agree that they won't post premium content elsewhere without permission. As a producer of internet content, I am a firm believer in following the law. To remove someone's content and post it elsewhere is stealing.
...when people sign up for the premium is to include an agreement that they have to agree to before their membership is approved. Then if they take the premium copy and post it somewhere, they would be in violation of the agreement and the copyrights that go with it.
Don't forget this great opportunity to support UNO wrestling as well as attend this very good clinic.

Just speculation. I do not mean to slight anyone. I do have to do the ratings this year so if anyone has words of wisdom for me I would greatly appreciate it.
Chance Gerdes from BDD is right there as well. He is 3-1 against both retzlaff and mathiessen. All three of these guys will be at Friend the first meet of the season so I guess we'll see. He also lost two one point matches to blecha of superior last year. He is improved from last year and might crack your top 6 at some point, or maybe not. I'm just putting his name out there as a contender. Thanks for your hard work! Good luck this season.
at the wrong line, Albers from BDD beat him three times two years ago. So Gerdes is 0-3 against mattheisen during high school, and 1-3 against Retzlaff. They were both better than him last year but the gap is closing. All I'm saying is that he is a contender who deserves to have his name out there. I apologize about misreading the line scores from two years ago, it was albers not gerdes that beat milford.
I went back and read my original post and it was confusing as I wrote 3-1 and I should have typed 1-3 against both. But as you can read in another post it should have read 1-3 and 0-3 respectively. I shouldn't have written anything until after the first meet to see who has improved the most over the last six months. I apologize for any confusion or playing favorites for my own kids, I just wanted his name out there as a contender.
Not a problem Coach. I understand and still appreciate the information. I am sure you are right about Gerdes being deserving, and that he will be in the mix this year. Good luck to you and your team this year.
I thought he might be back, but I was not sure. What weight will he probably go? How high in the ratings should he be? What weight is he going to wrestle?
Mike Barnes. He never got to wrestle any of those kids. He was out after the December 14th meet. He did win the Boys Town Invite. So it is hard to say. We probably won't see any of those wrestlers till districs or state...
Bennington is looking for a JV wrestling tournament on the third week in December (this year Dec. 21). I would like to give our JV's more matches. E-mail me if you have a tournament that we could enter on that weekend.
Coaches I am a "New Referee" with 20 years of experience. I have wrestled over 800 matches in my careeer and hold 10 nebraska state records, so I am no stranger to nebraska wrestling. If your looking for young blood in the refereeing department give me a shot. Just moved to the Omaha area but will travel.
If you are needing a referee for any duals or tournaments you can get in touch with me at 308-236-5976. evenings
I've been officiating for a few years but am not this year. I've got a few ideas for you on duals and tourneys that might still be open in Northeast Nebraska.
E-mail me if you want them. I'm not going to post them here.
big whitey and there are no pop ups, info and insight will be great, some already posted; regardless, its the future of the internet particularly on worthwhile sites. I don't think you could even purchase a decent pop up stopper at this price.
I THINK PAYING TO SEE THE ELITE 30......OR WHAT SOMEONE THIINKS IS THE ELITE 30 IS CRAZY. WHATS THE REASON GOR IT....I MEAN ONE OF THE BEST PARTS OF THE OLD FORUM IS THAT ITS FREE WHY CHANGE THIS
If you think that the only thing in premium content is the Elite 30 you don't have to subscribe. You'll still have access to an advertising free forum, ratings and some other stories that won't be premium. There will be a ton of analysis done leading up to the season and throughout the season that is not just about the Elite 30. As I mentioned..I am just following the lead of alot of other sports sites including rivals.com, theinsiders.com and intermat.com
You do a great job and are much appreciated, but am disappointed we have to pay to follow Nebraska High School wrestling. Do you think this will limited the amount of people on the insider forum? Your new website does look great though.
Thanks for the good words. Again I won't apologize though as I provide a service to people in Nebraska that want to follow wrestling. Your membership basically goes towards keeping an Ad free forum, a monthly fee which I pay to keep the site up and getting alot of analysis throughout the entire year. I pay $10 a month for Huskers Illustrated so compare that to $2 a month and it's not a big cost. About 90% of the people registered on the forum so far are insiders. And of course you can post on either board you want to if you have a membership.
So do you figure you will have stuff on your site that we can't already get through Mikey C. and his publication (which is free?). I know you will have your own insights and of course the elite 30, but a lot of the wrestling news is presented in NWI, and you guys do work collaboratively, don't you? Second question. Can someone else pick up this wrestling forum or create one like this to use? I thought this once was particularly entertaining. Really don't see the new one having the SPARK. Third question (sorry about the questions, I don't want to make you angry). What is the overall cost of keeping your site open per month? Sooner or later, it will be profit bearing, won't it?
The good thing about all the different sites is that they each have their own niche. Mike is particularly good at getting the stories and letting people know exactly what happened when. My site is a little different-my goal has never been "news." I've always been more of an analyst and observer of things that happen. I want to leave the news side of the business to people that enjoy doing that. Likewise I'm not sure alot of people want to do the analysis side. As far as this forum I'm sure you could recreate another one. But the days of free forums are going fast. The people that run this forum obviously have to have 10 pop up ads to cover their costs. The new forum will be better in the long run once wrestling season starts to get closer. As with anything new, it just takes a little adjustment time.
As far my costs well it has cost several thousand dollars to have the new website the way I want and my ongoing costs are dependent on how much traffic is on the site. I guess I can't even give a clear answer on that because I really don't know. I just hope I don't lose money. As far as anything I keep-that would be gravy. Working a full time job and then coming home, staying up until 4 in the morning last season was really tough. But I still like doing this and will continue as long as it's feasible. Hope that answers your questions.
You sure did answer my questions. And for that I thank you! Hope you get the subscriptions that you want. I can tell you it will be tough, though considering all the people in the wrestling world who want money for info:

I could go on and on, but as you can see, it gets to be pretty expensive out there! I had always thought that your work was totally philanthropic in nature. Oh well, since Dupont went to jail, philanthropic adventures in wrestling have gone down the tube.
Hey I heard coach Reitmier called you the other day. If you have any questions about anything up here (at Augie) then you can e-mail me at Runner_up9@hotmail.com. or give me a call at (605)-274-4083. Good luck this year.
for Augustana wrestling? Chris, we're all anxious to follow your college career and wish nothing but the best for you. Some of your proteges here at home are really anxious to get started.

To get to the wrestling site go to augie.edu and go to the athletics link. Go to wrestling form there and you can follow all the stuff in the news. Good luck to Devon and Dru this season. I'll see you at the Valentine Invite.
I have changed my mind. I Pat Carr am going to drop down to 112 and take Trevor DeRuiters spot and win the state title at 112. You guys have convinced me that 119 is a tougher weight. and my brother Kevin will win it at 189 and Bellevue East will have 2 state champions, Pat and Kevin Carr you heard it here first
boy bold prediction. I am here to tell you neither of you will even make it to state let alone win it. geez this is too funny. your parents should take your computer time away man your nuts.
For the first yo-yo, I'm the real Patrick Carr. I was at the BE football game at 9:11 P.M. I will be going 119. And for the second yo-yo, you don't know what the hell you're talkin about. Where do you get off tellin my brother and me that we're not going to state? You're so lost you couldn't find your head it's so far up your butt you don't know what you're talkin about. Talk to me when you know what the hell you're talking about. Like AFTER DISTRICTS! Dumbass.
