I have heard of the following events in or around the village this month. Thank goodness we have an active Church or our social lives would involve much more travel. Of course we don't need reminding that the pub is open every day for a good chat, game of darts or go on the fruit machine.
11 Sep: First Annual VICARAGE GARDEN PARTY AND FETE at the vicarage, Berinsfield, 14:00 - 16:00 (2pm - 4 pm).
11 Sep: Oxfordshire Historic Churches Trust sponsored RIDE OR STRIDE. Bicycle or walk around Oxfordshire to raise money for your church and for the Oxfordshire Historic Churches Trust. Forms for participents can be found in the church, and if you would help manning the church during the event please sign up on the sheet in the church porch, or speak to Tracey Brook.
12 Sep: Dioscesan PILGRIMAGE to the Shrine of St Frideswide at Christ Church Cathedral. Meet at Dorchester Abbey at 11:30 pm (that's what's written here in front of me!), walking to Toot Baldon for picnic lunch, then on to Oxford. Phone Canon John Crowe on 340007 for more information. (And check if that is really 11:30 pm as I suspect it is not a night walk especially with the picnic.)
26 Sep: Special TEAM SERVICE in Dorchester Abbey at 10:30 (am) to say farewell to Team Rector of 17 years Canon John Crowe, who is retiring.
Informal events at this time of year include Blackberrying, Sloe picking, Bullice (wild plum) picking. As far as I know, no local landowner objects to hedgerow foraging, and this seems to be a bumper year. Keep your eyes open along the local footpaths and rights of way. Gleaning crops might be a thing of the past these days though, so ask first!
