Do come along to the next Drayton St Leonard Local History Society talk: Mark Davies, a local author, will be talking on "The Abingdon Waterturnpike Murder; Crime and Punishment in the Eighteenth Century".In 1787, David Charteris was seen walking from Abingdon Fair to Toot Baldon, but he never arrived home. His body was later discovered in a ditch near the Thames at Nuneham.Three men were hung for the crime, on the evidence of one of their accomplices.
