Clan connections

Regarding the clan Scougall, my father Percy Harry Scougall was informed in Inverness around 1950 that Scougall was part of the Lindsay Clan. He purchased a Scougall broach which had a hand holding a quill pen with the words HAQ ORNANT, meaning "By this we adorn". The tartan was supposed to be the Lindsay tartan, but since that time a Scougall tartan has been designed in totally differnt colours, a modern invention.
My grandfather Harry Scougall was captain of the 4 masted barque 'The Pass of Melfort' which foundered in a hurricane off the west coast of Vancouver Island in 1905.
He was a descendent of Richard Todd Scougall who sailed to Australia from Mid Lothian in 1832. I sailed from Plymouth to South Australia in 1967!
