Hi Folks,
Very many thanks for your kind words of encouragement, it means a lot to me while I'm sitting in my little 6'X8' shed with the rain beating down on the roof building models! Sob sob....
Luis - the two recessed rings around the barrel are present on the real gun, but I almost certainly over-emphasized them in my weathering zeal! I have a included a picture from the Russian language website linked below with a shot that shows them fairly clearly - but they are very fine and do not show up in most shots.
Hugo - all weathering processes were made with paintbrushes, apart from a quick blast of matt black for the engine exhaust stains on the rear deck. The pigments were made into a thin wash, then applied lightly with a medium size brush, allowing each layer to dry so the effect fully develops.
When I was painting the model I merrily buffed up the track treads and road wheels to bright steely shine as if the tank had just been running, then it struck me that as thus was an abandoned vehicle, they would actually be coated with a layer of fairly orange, fresh rust, so out came Mig's powders...! The big direction sign on the turret side was painted with Humbrol Enamel matt white, and the white Crayola pencil was used for the rest of the chalk marks, but it did need sharpening every few strokes to maintain a fine line.
Thanks again for your words of support,
Marcus Nicholls
