Response to STUH 42 G Late - Arnhem 1944

Dear Ray.

The big crate on the engine deck can be seen very well on the photos placed on pages 26 to 42. The picture on page 44 shows the spare road wheel on the fender.
It must be admit that the photos on page 45,46 and 47 aren’t that clear but if you look close to the top left photo on page 46 and de bottom photo on page 47 you see the surroundings of the wooden box on the engine deck under beneath the trap.

At this time I have more photos of the StuH.’s in Oosterbeek and some of them show clearly that the big wooden box was under the trap.

I do not know what you mean whit the knocked out StuH. Photo but this isn’t near Oosterbeek. It is indeed a StuH. Of StuG.BriG.280 but knocked out in October in a place called Woensdrecht. If you look close to this photo you will see the Gun cradle only it lies as scrap on the top of the transmission panzer. Also the Oosterbeek version had this Gun cradle. The reason the bottom photo shows no Gun cradle is because this is an early type.

All the best

Marcel
