I've just realised that you're indeed saying the second sample is tapered.
My feeling is, BOTH are tapered quite prominently, not even slightly... (maybe very slight differences in measurements at most, but still very obvious).
The only way to tell is measuring the distance between the outer corners of both counter weights and compare with both samples.
I know it's a lot of work... oh well... one can only dream of being there...
