Response to Re: M51 (1973) WIP |
| The parts are very simple really, the model is going to be composed of two basic kits
turret, hull top from Tamiya M51, because it's the best M51 turret there is and the hull is easy to clean down to the basic shape and redetail using Tasca or scratchbuilt parts. I prefer to use seperate parts rather than moulded on, as you can get the correct undercuts etc without moulding compromises. Given the somewhat dodgy detail on a lot of IDF kits (the Tamiya M51 is very nice though) I only trust my own pics and dimensions for components.
Lower hull and HVSS are from Tasca, because all the reviews indicate that it's the most detailed HVSS set there is, plus the lower hull from the M4A3E8 has all the right cut outs and mounting positions for the suspension units. I intend to modify at least one HVSS unit to a different standard just to be different
Currently the nose is Tasca although I may be able to use a DML intermediate one if I can track one down.
Track will be the AFV Club stuff, cos I like a challenge and always prefere indy link rather than vinyl track
I will be using quite a lot of the ABER M50 set cos it has all the seperate handles and clasps but may use some other PE HVSS track guards.
Elefant Jerry can holders are fab (but unobtainable, luckily I bought every set I could find of all the types when I heard they were going bust) and the AA cans are correct cos I made them!!
I havent tracked down any specific pics of the hull type, it's a very subtle difference in any case and easy to miss. Given the source of M51 components it is a reasonable assumption that some got the Israel.
Markings will probably be stencils or Elefant ones.
