This is the Academy Warrior converted to the recovery version (Wr513) using the Accurate Armour Conversion set. The AA set is looking a bit dated and could do with some updating to provide better detail and some missing parts, mainly due to the Bowman radio fits. The pictures show what has been done but the main changes are:

1. Front - The tow bars are now fitted with pins and mounting brackets and as such only fit in one direction. The AA parts are the wrong way around and so I replaced the resin with metal rods and used the fittings from the AA set. The canvas engine covers were made from lead foil and all haddels were made from thin solder wire. The AA vent cover on the right hand side is the wrong shape so I used this part and reshaped it using a lot of filler. The AA drivers hatch looked a bit blocky and so I used the one from the Acadamy set. All vent covers had various small fittings added. The lights had wiring and junction boxes added and fittings added to the light surrounds.

2. Top - The etched baskets were given solder wire frames to get a better look. The long basket had a bin added from the seperate AA set. The lifting beam bracket and bar brackets had pins and retaining wires added. The Chain gun retaining bracket was remade as the AA one was poorly defined.

3. Rear - A new radio intercom box and ducting was added. The Academy rear mudguards were cut in order fit around the spade. New light protection bars were made from brass wire. the tow hook had a retaining pin added and various bolts added. A new spade reating bar was made and the spade winch had new cable added from thin hobby cable. The spade had various fixtures and fittings added. A pulley was added to the spade right hand side that was missing from the AA set. Fire extinguishers were added to the correct location on the rear of the anchor 'foot'.

4. Left hand Side - The crane locker had fixtures added and the door fitted with sealing rubber. The retaining fittings for the door were also added. A new, up-to-date fire extinguisher was added in the new location. An 'R' clip was added to the crane hook mount.

5. Right hand side - The large bin was 'opened' and had an interior added. A new door was made from platic card and pistons fashioned from brass rod. Padlocks were added to all the bins. The new Bowman antenna was added to the rear bin along with new wire ducting.

6. Crane - Hdraulic hoses were added to the bottom inside of the boom. The boom was hollowed out so the extendable boom could be 'workable'. The moulded on hdraulic cabling was removed from the crane head and replaced with thin solder wire.

7. Turret - Wiring was added to the smoke dischargers, beacon and spotlight. The hatch lid hinge was detailed with bolts. The flash supressor on the Chain gun was cut off and replaced with the Acadamy set one. The beacon is th AA on from a seperate set.

8. Tracks and Wheels - Metal tracks are currently in hand! The road wheel suspension is workable using the RB model set for the M1A1 Abrhams.

This model will eventually be placed in a dio so the crane is workable awaiting the Challenger 2 engine bay set to see where it will be placed. The suspension is workable for this reason also.

Many of the smaller and more delicate parts are yet to be fitted and will be painted seperately.

The model is yet to be cleaned and so the 'dust' you see is left over from hollowing out the boom!

All of the yellow is antislip paint.
