Mr Greg Buechler asked me a question on idf-modelling. The answer makes me want to add the following;
The turret does NOT have the cast in cheek reinforcement! And it should, if it has a refitted ejection port (assuming it is a mid production low bustle turret). The DEF turret is low bustle allright. And the Latrun turret has the cheek reinforcement. Why didn't I think of this anomaly?! Nobody's perfect... (The only exception I can dream up is an early low bustle turret with the port welded shut. The Israelis then cutting this off and replacing it with a homemade, "welded on" port. Slightly far-fetched if you ask me...)
Well, one then have to either add a cast in cheek reinforcement or replace the welded ejection port with a cast, grafted from a spare sherman turret shell, depending on what kind of turret one wants to model in the end. I'm still looking for candidates of the real M50 to model.
