Hello everyone ( As the singer, comedian, Max Bygraves used to say ) ‘Let me tell you a story’( for the UK viewers who may remember him).
This scene depicts the capture of several German troops and a Jagdpanzer by the US Forces somewhere in the Bulge area, as the last of the snow melts, leaving a muddy damp forest floor, the troops and Jagdpanzer are being led back to Allied lines for interrogation and inspection of the vehicle. Hastily painted stars have been daubed on the tank to signify capture.
As they retreat, they pass an oncoming convoy of US troops going the other way that have come across the ditched Kubelwagon which is stuck in the muddy ground.
They check on the Kubelwagon and although it is stuck, other than superficial damage there is a chance to salvage it if they can get it out of the mud.
As the POW’s are escorted back, the rear guy glances across to his unfortunate comrade and contemplates on being a ‘temporary muddy capture’ as opposed to a permanent one such as his fallen comrade.
The title is again, a play on words and depicts a three way short story, the capture of the tank, troops and Kubelwagon all of whom are in a muddy condition – hence the title.
The trees are made from dowel rod, small roots for the branches, painted up, then the branches are coated in white glue and then scattered with grass flock to simulate the pine needles.
The muddy groundwork is real powdered earth mixed with white glue and then painted in dark browns, blacks and numerous washes, then a generous coating of scenic water which gives its damp / wet look. Although the vehicles have been weathered and muddied I have tried to strike a balance so not to hide detail but at the same time, give it a convincing muddy look. Hope it works.
The figures are a mixture of Verlinden, Stalingrad, Legends and Nemrod.
Thanks for all the positive comments on the previous posts on this project, many ideas were given to me and I have to say some I have done such as gloving some of the figures and the recognition flags, some smaller alterations suggested to me I have left as they are. Anyway I am saying this one is done. The vehicles are placed but not yet glued in case I get some other comments on how maybe to improve the look. Cheers
All comments welcome, thanks for looking
