In the middle of the night the defenders of the newly captured Sankt Eduard Sanitorium from the USArmys' 30InfDiv were rudely surprised by the multiple detonations in the road below the building that brewed up 4 of their supporting Shermans, Simultaneously over a dozen MG42s opened fire on the north side of the building, accented by bursts from 120mm mortars firing from the nearby treeline and punctuated by the sharp crack of 75mm tank guns sending shells screaming into the normally tranquil edifice.
This fire kept up for a bit and then lifted, uncovering the attacking force of yelling screaming SS men, running straight down the bank to the rear of the building, firing their weapons from the hip.The assault force reached the back of the building

Panting for breath and sweating in spite of the cold damp night air,the attackers kept up small arms fire into the building, puncuated by occasional grenades.

The scene was lit by the flicker of flares and exploding ordinance. When the breaching teams got ready to enter the building the commander,Untersturmfuhrer Sievers, ordered the signal to be given to lift fire.

Sievers mutters to himself that he will have the hide of those verdammt tankers if they hit any of his pioniere.

The breaching team goes in,followed by the rest of the assault force and the dangerous work begins of clearing the large building room by room. Small arms, grenades, satchel charges and even panzerfausts are used relentlessly until the blocking position is once again secured. The Western tip of the pocket occupied by the battlegroup Peiper is in place. But...for how long? Casualtied have been very heavy and no replacements will arrive as will no ammo or food. Reality is setting in.
