Hello
Attached to this posting are some photos of my latest project. It is a NATO front-end loader. I have spent the last five days painting this kit for my company. It was a first for me in regards to the subject, conflict, weathering (aluminum and steel chips) and type of camouflage. I also think this is my first total resin kit.
Until now I had little interest in modern Subjects. I am finding modern subjects to be motivating because of the numerous publications available containing clear colored photos to reference for painting and weathering. This project was something very fresh for me.

Dear Matthew and Shawn
May 14 2006, 3:27 AM
Dear Matthew and Shawn, I was really hoping someone from my old home town would see this posting. I lived in the Portland Maine area all of my life until moving here to Spain last August at the age of 33. I still go home to visit my parents in Biddeford frequently. I will be there for two weeks in August. I personally prefer 989 WCLZ much over WBLM but figured WBLM to be more bravado for this piece of construction equipment. No comments about CYY......

With armor ofcourse!
May 13 2006, 2:28 PM
I'd go with the armor. The raw armor plates look awsome and the guys at Armorama will love you for it
Great rendition on a unusual subject!

Does this mean we're gonna see more modern models from you? I sure hope so!

Inspirational
May 13 2006, 3:15 PM
Hi Adam. Love the finish .. the subject is refreshing also ... I can see why one would be tempted with modern armor. I always find your work very inspirational, and so much can be learnt from this. What/how do you do the chalk grafitti? Im sure everybody on Armorama will be proud of this!
Adam, thanks for sharing! It's nice to see such an unusual modern subject from you for a change (wasn't the last one your icy T-55?). The weathering looks very nice on this one. I prefer the add-on armor, mainly because of how well you painted it! It reminds me of 'Naked Desperation', I just love how you paint that bare metal!!! I also like the personalized grafitti.

What’s up pals. Thank you for your postings and endless support. Nick, it is always fun talking to you on the phone. Talk to you again shortly.
Ey Charley, I found out last night that I will be home for the IPMS Nationals this year. I have toyed with the idea of going but am not sure. I will run it by Uncle Steve as well. Talk to you soon. Say hello and give a big fart to Mrosko for me.

I would rather fart than have an end loader with nappy silver painted lenses, dude slow down and spend a little more time on basic skill's of building a model.Mosk

Great weathered finish .... a few points
May 13 2006, 5:25 PM
The chips on the fork are outstanding!...the pallet looks a little too new (although it could be a new pallet) the spotlights above the cab don't look convincing painted silver...but the overall model is
a great piece of work....well done on you a mig releasing things that different
As we told you yesterday at Migproductions, the machine is a little jewel; and with the armour on looks much more wild ¡¡¡¡. Is the yellow one ready too...

May 14 2006, 3:59 AM
It was good seeing you the other night Santiago. You are always welcome. MIG will be finished his yellow civilian version shortly. Thanks for your posting. See you very soon.
Beautiful work Adam! Definitely with the armor, it's a great contrast to the Nato camo. I love the way you hinged the front piece to be either up or down.
...I need to stop trying to do too many things at one time. The graffiti is another nice touch. The only thing I see you might want to take a look at, the rear tail lights look really bright, maybe dust them a bit?

Hello Mike
May 14 2006, 3:56 AM
Hello Mike
I hope all is well. I often think of my trip to Atlanta last year. It was a great time. I found out the other night that I will actually be in the States during the IPMS show this year but do not know if I will attend yet. I did not know this until about 12 hours ago. I will keep you informed. Talk to you soon.
it's pretty common to see a dirty, dusty, mess of a military vehicle with nice clean shiny reflectors/lights etc. My CO was always very adamant about wiping off all the lights etc for safety reasons, so if he found dirty tail lights on your vehicle, you'd be doing push ups. A lot of vehicles in the company had a rag tucked under the driver seat for just this purpose.
I'm stoked to see this 10K as we had one in my unit (with forks) used for loading/moving pallets and containers in the repair parts warehouse. I never thought I'd see one in this scale.

the bucket & the forklift
May 13 2006, 8:27 PM
Adam, I could stare at the bucket & the forklift parts for hours; the colour, style, placement and attention to detail of the chips & the other weathering techniques are IMO perfect. Don't get me wrong - the rest of the kit is great too, but if there is one thing that really catches my eye, it's the tips of the forklift tynes..just amazing looking paintwork.
Like the others have said, I hope to see more modern era work from you!

Okay, so where's the gun?
May 13 2006, 9:32 PM
Adam, I know you hid one somewhere! Seriously, very well done. In my real job I see heavy construction equipment on a daily basis and have observed that the wear, tear and weathering doesn't seem that far removed from combat vehicles. You've nailed it! I've often thought about scratchbuilding a 1/25scale D9 Cat .... but for now I'll relish your model of the loader! Great job, my friend.

did Mig let you paint this all by yourself? [only kidding!! ].. those armour plates and the weathering around the forks are outstanding!, saved a couple of pics for reference for the plates on my Guntruck

Thank you all very much!!! More thoughts and answers….
Thank you very much everyone for the feedback!!!!!!! I know you would all prefer be at your desks modeling on the weekend instead of putting up postings. Again, and am grateful.
Dear Marcel, Rudi and Graeme, yes I will be doing more modern armor. Again, this was a very fresh change for me. I do not know if MIG will leave the Hilux to me or not. I think that I will again learn more about painting when finish the Hilux as I did with this loader. Never the less, you will see it soon.
Dear Frank, the graffiti was painted using white acrylics and a fine brush. I would recommend practicing on a pice of scrap first. I found this to be tricky. My friend MIG is much better at this then I am at this (he actually helped me with the slogans on the front plate). Wait until you see the Arabic writing he did using this same method on his civilian front end loader.
Hello Jim, the model is actually a resin kit that my company will be releasing shortly. The only thing I designed on this kit were the forks and their mount along with other various minor details.
Ey Mike, anything scratch-built along these lines by you would be a show stopper pal. I hope you are doing well. I cannot wait to be published together in September. Keep in touch.
Eddie, this kit will be offered from MIG Productions in a few weeks. Thank you for your interest and posting. Happy modeling.
Andy, I would love to see your Guntruck finished soon. Rust up those plates pal. its fun.
Thanks again everyone else for you postings as well. Happy modeling.

May 14 2006, 11:34 AM
Hello Mr. Wilder ! Excelent work as usual..... A little diferent from the WWII universe but with the same quality of work.... The steel plates covered with diferent tones of rust are amazing ! And I like the "Heavy Metal" logo !!!!!

some lovely touches- what a great subject
May 14 2006, 3:28 PM
for me has to be with the armour- a great job of the raw steel ( as your T34) the forks and pallet do it for me- like the choice of 'dirt' colour to contrast (like dolomite from a site I presume?)really interesting model Adam- great work

Happy modelling.

as usual Adam. I especially like the rust effects on the "armour" panels and the multi coloured chipping around the fork lift area - it shows a real mastery of the technique.

Hello, thank you again for the support. It is very nice. This is fantastic.
Hello Joaquin
I am sorry that we did not get enough time to talk at AMT. It all went by so fast. I am thanking of taking a bus to Almeria in October. I am sure we will talk more about this soon.
Ey Sven, thanks for joining our MSN chat conversation the other night. Again, I am looking forward to your Panzer IV. I will talk to you this week.
Paulo, Mark, Abilio and Horacio, it is great to see your postings. You guys have all influenced me with your great painting and scratch-building.

Hello Paco, Antonio & Herve
Thanks again for your comments. This really was a fun project. I learnt so much more about painting. I feel as though I have stepped into a new world.
Do not worry Antonio. I have a 38T almost finished. I will be painting a figure for that one.
With armour without hesitation!!! You/we cannot miss the great wrok on painting rusty armour plates indeed. As usual, your work is always an endless source of inspiration.

As good as it gets,but...........
May 16 2006, 9:18 AM
if you are really going for painting accuracy, which I assume you are,the rams are always wiped squeaky-clean every time they are forced out of the cylinder.Even if it were leaking, the oil is thin and would run on the under-side of the ram.Other-wise,an out-standing job of weathering. It really looks the part..............Dan

Hello
Thank you every one for the responses. I thought the subject was original but was not expecting anything like this at all.
Lu, I am going to start calling you the phantom. No one hears from you for months then you appear out of nowhere with a posting or something similar. I was able to see a lot of the CMT guys at AMT. It brought back great memories. Could you also send me an E-mail with your mailing address please?
Hello Dan
I did have a bit of a time getting the hydraulic rams to at least look like what you see there. I could not find a good combination of paints. I a sure you are correct about the thin oil running under the hydraulics. I will certainly correct this mistake next. Thank you for your help. I really appreciate it!!!!!
Daryl and Stephen
Thank you for your complements. I am glad you like the model. hope to talk to you again soon.

to see your work Adam. I might have to get me one of these kits, great subject - tell Mig to keep pushing it, we need these original and new subject matter to keep us fresh. I agree with Charlie's comment about the steel plate, reminds me of the Naked Desperation in the shop (still one of my all time favs). There is a lot to absorb here and appreciate. Great stuff!
