This is a project that is one problem afer another.
Many years ago I decided to build a 1/72 scale Strv 122 out of a Leopard 2A5 from Revell. They had used a 2A4 hull in the kit so the first thing I had to do was to build a new drivers hatch. Then I started on the hull building the armour from the few pictures I could find and a simple drawing. I had almost finished the turret when I decided that it wasn't right so the project died.
Later I bought the conversion set and the Tamiya 2A5 kit and decided that I would build it in 1/35 scale instead.
Now many years later I have decided that I will build the 122 in 1/72scale but then I will use the Dragon 2A6 kit as a base and now I have more pictures and the 1/35 conversion set to aid me.
But I dont like things go to waste. I looked at the hull and I thought that it looked good so I set on the task to build it as a Danish Leopard instead.
That wasnt so easy as I thought. I found out that there should be an APU in the right side of the rar hull. Finding pictures wasn't the easiest thing but I succeded. Then I went back to the front of the hull to build the last pieces. Nothing would fit. I had to make the nose longer and more pointy.
Then I had to fill all the panel lines as I had got the armour wrong, so putty sanding and rescribing the lines. Now all that was left was to build the front fenders and of course thay wouldn't fit. I finally came to the conclusion that the side skirts was to short. But I will fix this by replace the front of the skirts with parts of 2A4 skirts. On the picture I have removed it on the right side and the new part is on the ground.
In this picture you can see the old short and blunt nose. There are also a couple of Leopard 2A4's that will be built as one from Norway and Finland.
Well there has been some problems but I have learned some things that will help when I start on the Swedish Strv 122. The funny thing is now when I compare the turret that I didn't like with the one in the conversion set it was really right so cancelling the project on account of it was wrong but on the other hand the hull was no good.
