The Roden 1:35th scale model of the 1924 Pattern RR - built, primed and base-coated. Weathering will be next. What I thought was going to turn out to be a relatively undesirable model in terms of quality and fit actually turned out to be a pretty good model. One needs to get past the pea-green colour and soft texture of the plastic. Once the model is primed, it suddenly takes on a whole new look.

ive the kit on my work bench
i keep looking at it from time to time
im going to keep the interior of the kit for a whatif open top
Rolls Royce troop carrier build of some sort
and theres a famous London Home Guard version id like to scratch build too
ive cast up loads of wheels
I wonder if Roden would ever do a Fordson version

HI Andrew

July 2 2009, 8:58 PM

It is a very nice kit - a little tricky in some parts, particulary with the chassis. But once it is built, you will be very pleased with the results. The reviews have not been necessarily kind to Roden on this one. I agree it is a daunting model to build but it builds up well. As such, I hope that Roden will consider releasing a 1924 pattern and a variety of spin-offs such as those built on a Fordson chassis. As well, Resicast may also be releasing some variants. We'll have to keep our eyes open for upcoming releases...

Cheers

Mark

Is it 1920 or 1924 Pattern??...

July 4 2009, 5:35 PM

Hi Mark;
What am I missing here? This is not a 1924 Pattern turret I see.
The heading says 1924 Pattern, but you show the 1920 Pattern. Both you and Andrew are
hoping for a 1924 Pattern as a follow-on from Roden.

Where did I go wrong?

Looking great, Mark.

I've been watching this extra close as I have the Resicast 1914 version on my bench at the moment.

You've really pulled it all together and it looks great!

Rolls Royce fun

July 3 2009, 2:17 PM

Hi Mark,

Great to see you posting another new armored (or is that armoured?) car. Can't get enough, please keep sharing the progress my friend. Hope all is well with you and the summer is warm. Time is right for you to get out to sea me thinks.

Best,

Mike

Rolls Royce - more weatheirng

July 4 2009, 3:05 PM

A few filters using humbrols and oils, a pinwash, and a few subtle chips. The reference photo I used to do this model shows the Rolls in the desert (possibly Palestine) without the search light affixed on the turret so I removed it on the model

Lovely model Mark!

What were the colours of the paints that you used?

Cheers,
Mark

Hi Mark

July 6 2009, 12:25 PM

The first base application was Gunze Olive Drab - I applied a second base (much lighter in application) with the same paint but I added about 20% black to the Gunze Olive Drab to give it that early inter-war British dark green colour. With weathering, it lightened up considerably.
