Re: Dudek

I met Milorad Dudek briefly in Banja Luka in 2002 in a conference. He is an energetic politician who wants to do good things for his people but feel left out from Beograd politics especially he is against unconditional opposing the Kosovo’s Independence. He always believed on unity of nation lands and merging Srpska territory with mother Serbia. He was also in some degree pro Kosovo’ departure with some condition on land for peace exchange with Albanians. What he wanted was people being together in one state with some exceptions. “What Kostunica was doing (at that time) was wrong” he said. “It will come time that we have no leverage to push for our conditions. And in this pace we will run out very soon.”
Now when even Montenegro recognized Kosovo his word are stuck in my mind. We have no leverage to push our agenda for national unity. It is thanks to Kostunica’s work of denying everything and non-condition the status of Kosovo with other Serbian territories in return. Blind nationalist is the worst enemy.

Dreaming Srpska

October 10 2008, 8:32 PM

American politicians need things to remain as they are in Bosnia and Kosovo. Joe Biden, unless they start an Iranian crisis soon, will be the next American VP. He was a major force behind bombing Bosnia and Yugoslavia. He claims credit for starting those two "splendid little wars", and basks in the love and admiration bestowed by public opinion upon the makers of Humanitarian War. He proudly talked about it as he debated Governor Palin last week. So, no chance of breaking Srpska off, not until the war chest runs dry, or the dollar-printing presses get jammed. Could be soon, but not just yet.

You want leverage for Serbia? You want influence? Here's a couple of modest proposals:

1. Working with Free Montenegro, open a corridor for the free passage of heroin and slaves across the Adriatic.
2. Organize R&R centers for the tired NATO boys back from the Bush wars. Staffed by under-age Slav slave Comfort Girls, such centers could become indispensable to the Free World's war effort.
3. Send a few Serb divisions to occupy Afghanistan: Bush-Blair just run out of volunteers. You give them 50,000 young fools willing to be separated from their legs, they will give you Srpska. They might even throw in Mitrovica.

Economy

October 13 2008, 1:21 AM

Hope that you're wrong. That's not the only way!

Economical situation is being changed now. Many forms of posession will be changed soon. And economy is one that rule the policy. If by that moment honest men will be at power in the countries of Balkan ( or at least at assured opposition) - lots of turnovers could heppen...
And one of such politicians, as far as i understand your words - is Dudek

Smart liberals

October 13 2008, 9:32 AM

The first "modest proposal" was written by Dean Swift, in the 1700's, when he proposed that to solve the problem of
the famine, Irish children be fattened up nicely and then eaten,to everyone's profit: good food for the children, for a while at least, and pleasure for the final diners.

As for honest politicians, if they are not realistic, they have no chance. In Serbia, to talk of giving up Kosovo without further ado, besides wrong, is also not very wise.

Just as smart as running for office in the US on socialist slogans, or in Italy on a program of giving refuge to all Romanian Gypsies.
