Does roberts have good parts for brakes?
Does anyone have part numbers for Napa or another nationwide chain for brakes?
I need to rebuild my front and rear brakes on my 1949 B1C 3/4 ton. Any hints or tips would be appreciated. I have bought the hub puller and have the rear drums off already.
thanks

Hi there, I just did the rear brakes on my 50B2B. I could not find the parts locally, Napa, Checker, etc. I ended up getting them from Roberts. I would rec. replacing the springs/hardware on the brakes also as they are relatively cheap. Also, check out the wheel cylinders. Mine were leaking pretty badly and I got the rebuild kit, unfortunately, 100-200 miles later they have begun leaking again. If I was going to keep this rear end I guess I would buy the new cylinders. This is just my experience although many people have good luck rebuilding them. Lastly, if you do not already have a shop manual I would invest in one. I took my rears apart and ut them back together numerous times without being able to get the drums back over them until someone on this board advised me on the "minor adjusters". The adjustment procedure is fairly complicated and although it is available many places on the 'net' I have found the manual (also available from Roberts) very worth having. Good luck, Jay

Master Cyl #544
Wheel Cylinders
17789 (Qty 2)
10580
10581
10582
10583

Don't have the breakdown which goes where but I think the 17789 is for the fornt, all the rest rears. These numbers are from when I did my B1C brakes about a year ago.

Thanks a ton, i will try my NAPA store. I would much rather buy locally than order through mail, especially now that planes arent flying, it could take forever to get them.
