On the 49 what was the theory behind having only the passenger side equipped with a key door lock? Just wondering.

I always thought the reason for passenger side lock only was because you were only suppose to exit or enter the vehicle on the curb side and this was a way to encourage this, therefore you were not standing in the street with the risk of getting creamed. Just my opinion. Roger

I heard of another possibility. To ensure that "gentlemen" Dodge truck drivers always opened the door for their lady, only the passenger door could be opened with a key!

so you don't enter from the traffic side. I have seen it mentioned in period advertisements for both the trucks and passenger cars.
