I have just bought a 1951 B3C with the 218 L-Head engine and I see that the Distributor is leaking oil down the side of the block. Looks to be a bad bushing thats causing the problem. Would like to rebuild it instead of buying a new unit. Any of you out there know of a source of Distributor parts or somewhere to send it for overhaul. I just discovered this Forum and from what Ive read so far it looks to be a great source for Pilot House truck info. Thanks. Jamesbee

Actually their is a gasket which fits into the block. On a couple blocks I have seen it was a cork or composition gasket with a metal case. I just ordered some replacements from Vintage Power Wagons and the new ones are just rubber "O" rings. Interesting I haven't been able to find this part listed in the factory parts book so I don't have a factory part number.

Thanks for the info on the gasket, I will also order some and see if that takes care of the leak. I had a leak at the rear of the pan also and thought maybe it was the rear main seal. After putting about 800 miles on the newly rebuilt engine the leak dissapeared. The seals must have worn in and I know that the rings seated. Except for the small leak around the distributor, all is well.
