| Thought I'd clean up my '49 half ton spare tire holder and maybe install same. I can't figure out where the hanger rods attach to the frame--the big, heavy flat plate does just hang from the frame by an adjustable rod at each end, right? To get the spare on/off that holder will require a real manly man--hope I don't get many flats. Thanks. |

The front one (pass side) attaches to the bed angle iron in front of the big frame cross member. The rear one (drivers side) goes to the frame rail behind the cross member. I have a 7-1/2 foot bed so your might be slightly different if you have the short bed or 9 footer. |

Aha--I was trying to figure out how it mounted either North-South or East-West! Mounting NE-SW makes more sense. Thanks for the help. |

that way the nut for unscrewing it (driver side) is closer to the rear of the truck. Check the photos in the WIP section of pilot-house.com. You can see it right behind the backup light. |

Believe I've found some holes on the truck that will line up with the tire carrier based on GTK info. Next question is what kind/size hardware is carrier suspended with? My parts book shows threaded rod with a yoke on top for each end of carrier--however, there is no way to attach a yoke fork to the frame. Are there eye bolts mounted to the frame and yokes hang from eyebolts? Thanks. |

with nuts run up on the bottom side to secure it against the frame. If you can't get the bolt in from the top I would use a piece of thread-all and secure it with nuts on both sides. I am pretty sure mine is stock, it has a trick bolt. It is threaded at the bottom for a couple inches, then no thread, then near the head where it is secured against the frame it has about 3/4 inch of thread for the top nut. | |
