A post by Ken gave all part numbers for doing a 12v conversion. Just finished that today but I want to make certain how the external ballast resistor for the coil gets installed. I assume it mounts on the firewall and the ignition wire connects to one end; the coil connects to the other. Correct?

Your description is correct. Did you have any trouble getting the 12v generator and regulator? Do they fit? Did you consider getting a coil with internal resistor? Good luck.
