Hey all, I am in the process of gathering parts for a 12 volt conversion but I am running into a dead end here. I was using the part number for the generator supplied in an earlier post. I've talked to two local napa shops and one told me that the number I have is a Wilson number (I assume Wilson is a supplier of theirs) and that they can't get it. I went to a different Napa and they told me that that number "don't mean nothing to me" and both shops have looked it up in their Raylock "older vehicles" catalog and say that the part number they have (different from above #)is no longer being produced. Any one have any other part numbers/ suppliers (national) that they had luck with. I live here in Minnesota if there may be a regional supplier. Thanks, Jay

in, yes Toledo. URL is http://www.taeservice.com/ They understand weird requests and have a very large inventory. Turnaround time is very good for repair work.

I used the part numbers for doing a 6 to 12 conversion for doing my 1953 that I got in a post in this forum. As a reference the post listed an article from an issue of ClassicPickups. It gave NAPA parts numbers for alternator, voltage regulator, coil, ballast resistor, and heater fan. I took it to my local CarQuest parts store and there was absolutely no problem. And we don't exactly live in Parts Central, USA. I am astonished that you had a problem.

I'm the one that posted those part numbers. You're the first success (or failure) story I've heard about since the post--glad it worked for you. Did you get the blower motor too? or just engine stuff?

Ken:

We got the blower motor. Everything installed OK. However, things took a turn - which I am beginning to see is commonplace in these rebuilds. Every wire we touched/bent/etc. the insulation just turned to dust. So, we're going to need to do a complete re-wire.

The generator we removed worked when we removed it. Perhaps 'Jay' is interested in it, the regulator, and the coil - all from the 6 volt system that was already in the truck.

Thank you very much for you help.

Rewire

I had the same problem. Also previous owner loved devices. He had put in two more horns (1 air, 1 oogah) eight lights on the dash, dome light, under-hood lights, backup lights, etc. Wire age and mass confusion led me to rip out all wires and electrical options. Rewired the complete vehicle per the electrical diagram in service manual. It is really a pretty easy project.
