I am in pursuit of a disc brake conversion kit for my stock front end on my 50B2B. I have recently tried MPBrakes and when I called them yesterday I was told that they do not offer a kit for that application. I did some searching and found aajbrakes.com. This fellow, Roger and his wife run this out of their house. I spoke to him yesterday and he was very friendly and informative. Although the web site is not very detailed he said that they have a kit for our trucks that only requires "moderate work" to the spindles. Apparently there are three steps to modifying the spindles. First the top to bolt holes must be drilled out to 7/16, the bottom two must be tapped to 9/16 fine thread, and the spindle face lower portion must be ground down a little for rotor clearance. I wasn't too excited about this but he kind of reassured me that it would be fairly easy. He offers 2 versions of the kit, one basic and one fairly complete kit. More details are available on his site. I wanted to let you all know about this because it seems to be a popular subject of conversation on this site and it seems like it's the only kit out there. I'm going to be ordering my kit soon-I will keep you all posted as to how it goes. Jay

Jay. I will be watching with great interest to see results of your conversion! What is your plan for the master cylinder? Good luck and thanks for the info.

I'm not sure what I will do about the master cylinder. Obviously I will have to convert to a firewall mounted master with "hanging" pedal assy. Roger at AAJ Brakes brought this point up and suggested that I do a post on the "Forward Look" page accesible from his web site. I will try this when I get a little closer to that point. I really haven't seen much in the way of aftermarket, even universal types, that I'm that wild about. I was thinking I might end up in a salvage yard looking in some late 70's pickups. I do not plan on using a power brake setup, just manual. I'll let you know, or let me know if you have any ideas. Jay

Check out Custom Classic Trucks, June 2002, issue. Page 58 has an article about installing a remote master/booster on "any year or size car or truck" "mounted any place you have room." Article claims you can use original master cylinder to power remote master cylinder/booster. Sounds interesting if it works!

I reread (carefully) above CCT article looking for "gotchas" in what sounded like a pretty good option. In spite of all the "alls" and "everys" early in the article, buried toward the end is a casual statement that talks about using "your dual-chamber master cylinder." That would appear to leave out old Dodge trucks--d_ _n!

If you go to our website www.uglytruckling.com you will find a brake setup for 57-71 D100 trucks. I have not found a half ton pilothouse truck in our area yet to try this setup on. Maybe someone can tell me if the spindle for your trucks is the same as the later ones. If it is our setup will probably work on them. Also you probably will not have to change your MC as we use the original MC on the 1 ton power wagon conversions and there is plenty of volume to work the larger calipers installed on those trucks.
