I have a 1953 B4B, 1/2 ton, with the "Job Rated" front grill. Always thought the stainless horizontal grill was more appealing. Could I "upgrade" to the stainless front grill work, by using one of the older front-end pieces? Were there specific years that the stainless horizontal front grill was offered, or was it offered '48 through '53 as an option? When did "Job Rated" start? Anything anyone knows about this front grill "evolution" is appreciated.

Hi.

Stainless was never offered. In 51 only, chrome plated horizontal bars were an option on Spring Specials, very rare trucks that were sales promotion tools. The center Job-Rated medallions were chrome plated in 51 only, then silver-painted steel in 52 and 53 because of wartime restrictions on chrome. I have seen a chrome over pot-metal medallion but I don't know if some may have been chrome over steel. They were never, ever made in stainless steel that I have been able to verify. Get a copy of Don Bunn's book Dodge History and Restoration guide.
