Hello again-

So I recently swapped in a mid 80's GM alternator (3 wire type) as part of a 12 volt conversion in my 50 B2B. I managed to rig something up to mount it but was wondering if anyone had found a kit or aftermarket parts for another application that would work with the original Dodge truck engine. Ideas?

Thanks, Jay

I've done many of these over the years. Easiest mounting is to use 3/8 inch all-thread on the bottom mount, drill out original gen. bracket so this will fit, then use lock nuts and flat washers to move alternator fore and aft to get proper pulley/belt alignment, after which you tighten down the lock nuts on the all thread and cut off any remaining at the ends. Paint it flat black and it won't look too bad. Use original gen brkt on top. Generator pulleys will fit alternators for proper belt width, but are really too large diameter. Alt pulley should be much smaller in size but are hard to find in wider belt widths. Maybe a machinist friend can turn one out for you. Good luck. dte
