Hi, I'm new to this forum and a new owner of a 1950 B2B 108. I do have the "Dodge B-Series trucks-Restorer's & Collector's Guide". It sounds like many of you have alot of knowledge about these beautiful old trucks and I was hoping you could answer a question for me.
I am just in the first stages of restoring my truck and noticed in the book that there is something called a "Spring Special". Does anyone know how to identify whether your truck would be one of these? I was going to update this truck with front disk brakes and use a different engine but if I have one of the rare ones, I think I should keep everything as original as possible.
Can anyone help?
Also, will a 251 engine fit in the place of a 218? I got an old 48 fire engine, B series 2 ton chasis to use for parts. The best we can come up with is that the engine is a 251 and wanted to use it in our 1950 B2B which has a flathead with a cracked block.
Thanks!!

The difference between a spring special and other B-series pickups is basically that the spring special was painted a two-tone green. It was painted this way to entice farmers to buy a new pickup in the spring. Most from what I understand also have the deluxe cab. You can look it up in your book what options the deluxe cab had I don't have my book with me right now. As for the engine I'm not sure it would fit but check your bell housing off the 251 and see if it will bolt up to the 218. Hope this helps.
