what is ECT transmission?

I have a 95 4runner with automatic transmission. No one I've met can tell me what the ECT Transmission option is for. Does anyone here know? I've also looked on the web (thats how i found this site...).

Also, any harm in driving with Overdrive on all the time? What about driving with overdrive and ECT on or in any other combination?
